This is a full-time, permanent Senior Support Engineer role (2nd / 3rd line), working for a growing IT services business supporting a local and national client base across cloud, on‑prem and managed services. You’ll be part of a close‑knit technical team, trusted to get on with the job and make a real difference to customers.

Location & working pattern

  • Based on‑site in Northampton
  • Standard hours 8:00am – 5:30pm
  • No weekends, no on‑call
  • After probation, one day per week working from home
  • Some client site visits required (mainly local; occasional UK travel)
  • Full UK driving licence and own transport required (mileage paid at 45p per mile)

What you’ll actually be doing

  • You’ll sit at senior level within a small support team, covering 2nd and 3rd line support, while still being happy to roll your sleeves up when needed.
  • Handling 2nd & 3rd line technical support across servers, desktops, networks and cloud environments
  • Providing overflow support to 1st line when required
  • Troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues via phone, remote and on‑site support
  • Installing and supporting servers, networks, hardware and software
  • Working with Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure, Microsoft 365 and Intune
  • Supporting virtualised environments (Hyper‑V / VMware)
  • Configuring and supporting routers, firewalls, VPNs, Wi‑Fi and switches
  • Managing backup, disaster recovery and security solutions
  • Assisting with projects, rollouts and client site deployments
  • Acting as a technical mentor within the team where appropriate
  • Building strong, trusted relationships with customers and spotting opportunities to improve their IT environment

What we’re looking for

  • This role is as much about attitude and flexibility as it is about technical skill.
  • Have strong 2nd/3rd line support experience in an MSP or similar environment
  • Be comfortable working across Windows Server, AD, Azure, Microsoft 365 and networking
  • Enjoy variety — from first-line troubleshooting to complex infrastructure work
  • Be hands‑on, adaptable and happy to help wherever needed
  • Have a customer‑focused mindset and communicate clearly with non-technical users
  • Be comfortable working in a small team where everyone mucks in
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and be happy with occasional client travel

Nice to have

  • Experience with Linux and/or macOS
  • Familiarity with tools such as Datto, NinjaOne, UniFi, Draytek, Dell, HP or Acronis
  • Relevant technical certifications
