About Us
COCONE UK is the subsidiary of Cocone ONE Corporation, a Japanese company known for avatar-based social mobile experiences. We build consumer-facing mobile products focused on emotional connection, engagement, and long-term user relationships.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior UI/UX Designer (UI & Design System-led) based in London (hybrid model) to take creative ownership of the visual experience of a live mobile product on Android and iOS with built-in gamification. This role is centered on a full visual redesign of the product and the creation of a scalable design system that defines how every screen, component, and interaction looks and feels. You will translate our target audience, brand, and emotional positioning into a cohesive, high-craft UI and continue to refine user flows where they intersect with the visual layer. You will work closely with product managers, engineers, and artists to ensure design decisions are grounded in user needs while supporting business objectives.
What You'll Do
- Lead an end-to-end visual redesign of a consumer-facing mobile application built in Unity, raising the bar on craft, hierarchy, and emotional tone.
- Build and own a scalable design system: typography, color, components, iconography, motion, and usage guidelines.
- Translate audience insights, brand positioning, and product goals into a cohesive visual language across all screens and features.
- Design high-fidelity UI for core features and systems, ensuring consistency and quality across the product.
- Conduct UX audits to identify visual inconsistencies, usability friction, and opportunities to elevate the experience.
- Refine user flows, information architecture, and wireframes where they intersect with the visual redesign.
- Define UX hypotheses, validate them through testing, and iterate based on insights.
- Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to ensure designs are feasible and faithfully implemented.
- Analyze user behavior data, usability testing results, and qualitative feedback to inform design decisions.
- Establish clear recommendations for improving usability, consistency, and accessibility.
Requirements
Experience
- 5+ years of professional product design experience for consumer-facing mobile applications, with a strong portfolio of shipped UI work.
- Demonstrated experience building and scaling a design system from the ground up (typography, color, components, iconography, motion).
- Proven experience leading a full visual redesign or major UI overhaul of a live product.
- Experience owning UI for complex systems and feature sets, not just individual screens.
- Strong track record of collaboration with product managers and engineers.
- Experience contributing to product improvements tied to engagement or retention metrics.
Skills
- Exceptional visual design skills: typography, color theory, layout, hierarchy, iconography, and component design.
- Deep understanding of design systems — how to structure, document, and scale them.
- Strong sensibility for emotional tone, brand expression, and craft in consumer mobile UI.
- Solid understanding of mobile platform conventions and constraints (Android and iOS).
- Strong grasp of UX principles, interaction design, and information architecture.
- Ability to diagnose UX problems and propose effective, scalable solutions.
- High proficiency with modern design tools (Figma or equivalent), including advanced use of components, variables, and tokens.
- Ability to clearly articulate design decisions and rationale.
- Experience leveraging data, user feedback, and usability testing to guide design decisions.
- Understanding and ability to apply gamification principles in UI/UX.
Soft Skills
- High level of ownership and accountability.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Comfort working in an international environment.
- Proactive, problem-solving mindset.
- Strong attention to product quality and user experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience designing for social features, avatar systems, fashion/customization, or emotionally-driven digital experiences.
- Experience designing for female-skewing or lifestyle-oriented consumer audiences.
- Familiarity with accessibility best practices.
- Experience mentoring or guiding other designers.
- Experience implementing UI assets in Unity.
Interview Process
- Initial Interview (30–45 minutes)
- Practical Test (2–3 days)
- Design Review & Deep Dive (60–90 minutes)
- Final Interview & Offer Discussion (30–40 minutes)
- 3-Month Probation Period
How to Apply
- CV
- Portfolio showcasing high-fidelity UI work, design system samples, and shipped consumer mobile products (mandatory)
- Optional: a brief written reflection on a redesign or design system project you led
