This is a busy, varied and hands‑on role supporting a 24/7 care operation.

Working closely with the Home Manager and central HR team, you'll be the first point of contact for all people matters on‑site, providing practical HR advice and ensuring our workforce remains supported, compliant and engaged.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, enjoys building relationships and is confident working autonomously.

If you’re organised, solutions‑focused and enjoy balancing operational HR with day‑to‑day people support, we’d love to hear from you.

Key responsibilities

  • Acting as the first point of contact for managers and employees on all day‑to‑day HR matters.
  • Supporting managers with sickness absence management, return‑to‑work meetings and attendance processes.
  • Advising and supporting managers through employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, capability and performance processes.
  • Managing a complex staffing rota, ensuring staffing levels are maintained to meet operational needs.
  • Coordinating recruitment, onboarding and pre‑employment checks, including DBS, Right to Work and reference checks.
  • Maintaining accurate employee records and personnel files, ensuring compliance with employment legislation and Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements.
  • Coordinating mandatory training and supporting managers to maintain compliance across the home.
  • Supporting payroll by ensuring accurate recording of contractual changes, absence and staffing information.
  • Producing HR reports and maintaining HR systems and records.
  • Working collaboratively with the Home Manager and central HR team to provide a responsive and professional HR service.

We’re looking for an experienced HR professional who enjoys working in a busy operational environment and can confidently manage a varied workload with minimal supervision.

You’ll be highly organised, accountable and proactive, with the confidence to make decisions, prioritise effectively and build strong working relationships across the home.

  • Key qualities
  • Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Able to work independently, using your own initiative to identify issues, find solutions and see tasks through to completion.
  • Accountable for your work, taking ownership of deadlines and delivering consistently high standards.
  • Confident, resilient and assertive, with the ability to provide consistent, pragmatic HR advice and challenge appropriately when required.
  • Calm under pressure and able to adapt to the demands of a fast‑paced, ever‑changing care environment.
  • A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, able to build credibility with managers and employees at all levels.
  • Comfortable balancing operational demands with employee wellbeing and commercial considerations.
  • Key qualifications & requirements
  • Previous experience in a generalist HR Officer or HR Advisor role.
  • Experience supporting managers with employee relations cases.
  • Experience working with complex staff rotas, ideally within a 24/7 operation.
  • Knowledge of employment law and HR best practice.
  • Experience of safer recruitment, including DBS and Right to Work checks.
  • Experience maintaining accurate employee records and ensuring compliance with CQC requirements or within another regulated environment.
  • CIPD Level 3 or Level 5 qualification (or equivalent experience) is desirable.

This role would suit a highly organised individual, preferably who has experience in a previous care home/regulated or similar setting.

The role is fast‑paced and varied so an ability to work in an environment which has changing priorities is essential.
