We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Level 2 qualified Basketball Coach to join the Cobham Cobras family. The ideal candidate will play a key role in guiding and developing young athletes, fostering teamwork and promoting a positive, inclusive sporting environment. This is a fantastic opportunity for a coach who is driven to inspire young players and support them in reaching their full potential both on and off the court.

The Cobham Cobras are a proud and ambitious club preparing for our fourth season in Junior and Senior basketball. As a relatively young club, we have grown quickly through hard work, shared values and a genuine love for the game. This role is specifically focused on our school and junior programmes, including CVL and NL teams. We are looking for someone who is passionate about youth development and committed to building strong foundations for our younger players. Please note, this position does not involve coaching senior teams.

The following are essential for this role:

  • A Level 2 Basketball Coaching qualification
  • A valid driving licence, access to your own vehicle and the ability to travel between venues
  • Right to Work in the UK
  • Compliance with safeguarding training requirements
  • An Enhanced DBS check

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging basketball training sessions tailored to different age groups and skill levels
  • Develop customised training programmes to improve individual and team performance
  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching during practices and matches to enhance player skills
  • Organise team drills, strategies and game plans in preparation for competitions
  • Promote good sportsmanship, discipline and teamwork among players
  • Monitor player progress and maintain detailed records of development and achievements
  • Ensure all training activities are conducted safely, adhering to relevant health and safety guidelines
  • Foster a positive, inclusive environment that encourages participation and enjoyment of the sport
  • Adhere to all safeguarding policies and training requirements, ensuring timely completion of all annual mandatory learning, including any additional requirements set by the Club, Basketball England and partner schools.

Skills:

  • Proven experience in sports coaching, particularly basketball, with a strong understanding of game tactics and techniques
  • Excellent teaching skills, capable of communicating effectively with players of varying ages and abilities
  • Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes while maintaining discipline and focus
  • Organised with the ability to plan sessions efficiently and adapt programmes as needed
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with players, parents, and colleagues
  • Enthusiastic team player committed to promoting a supportive sporting community
