About the Job

We are recruiting for a Planning Manager to join our client and assist in the conversion and construction of one of their major public sector projects in Gloucester, Gloucestershire.

Job Title: Planning Manager Location: Gloucester Projects: Major Construction Project

As a Planning Manager, you will manage the planning and monitoring of large and complex projects, either independently or as part of a project planning team, potentially from bid stage through to completion.

You will work closely with the Project and Operations teams to develop the most efficient project methodology and programme, and then support the execution of the plan to ensure timely delivery of bids and projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, in conjunction with the Project Team, the project planning, programme, and delivery strategy for both bids and live projects.
  • Collaborate with the project team to develop pre‑construction and construction methodologies to ensure the most efficient and effective project delivery.
  • Develop the project plan, programme, and Planning Report in accordance with established planning procedures.
  • Provide experience‑based solutions for project delivery for consideration by the Project Team.
  • Report project progress at regular intervals against contractual and delivery programmes, or other nominated schedules.
  • Support the project team in the creation and updating of medium and short‑term programmes.
  • Produce project controls data to support regular status updates and weekly project dashboards, highlighting progress and key issues.
  • Prepare and support reports and documentation acting as the project conscience to inform the Senior Leadership Team and Business Unit on programme‑related matters.
  • Assist in chairing weekly planning meetings to coordinate programmes, progress updates, delay records, and upcoming milestones.
  • Review change proposals and advise on time impacts.
  • Assess and record delay impacts and undertake event analysis.
  • Record as‑built production rates and delays to support benchmarking for future projects.
  • Coordinate the 4D BIM model in conjunction with the BIM Coordinator.
  • Promote understanding and ownership of the programme across the project team.
  • Support the development of team members in planning techniques and tools.
  • Contribute to initiatives that enhance planning procedures and processes.

Essential Skills

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt approach depending on audience and situation.
  • Ability to produce high‑quality reports and diagrams to communicate sequencing and methodologies.
  • Strong Excel skills (including formulas and pivot tables).
  • Strong Power Point skills.
  • Working knowledge of 4D BIM software.

Essential Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of construction methodology, building technology, pre‑construction processes, and procurement routes.
  • Good understanding of main forms of construction contracts and key commercial terms.
  • Working knowledge of Primavera P6.
  • Strong knowledge of CPA planning techniques and project controls.

Essential Experience

  • Experience across multiple industry sectors.
  • Experience working under different forms of construction contracts.
  • Strong experience using Primavera P6.
