Cobalt is partnering with a growing UK professional services firm to appoint a Business Rates Surveyor / Senior Surveyor to join its established London team.The practice advises a varied client base across offices, industrial property, retail and specialist operational assets.

The position is based in Central London and offers hybrid working.The role and responsibilitiesYou will:Manage a varied business rates caseload covering different property types and valuation methods.Prepare and submit Checks and Challenges under the English business rates framework.Review assessments and identify opportunities for appeals, reliefs and liability savings.Undertake property inspections and gather relevant valuation evidence.Prepare clear, well-supported reports and Challenge submissions.Negotiate with the Valuation Office Agency.Provide clients with regular updates on appeal progress, liability and accruals.Support new instructions and client work associated with the 2026 revaluation.Develop relationships with clients and other property professionals.Keep up to date with rating legislation, case law and wider market changes.Take increasing responsibility for key accounts and larger client portfolios as your experience develops.The skills and experience requiredExperience in business rates gained within a consultancy, the Valuation Office Agency or a comparable environment.A good understanding of the Check, Challenge and Appeal framework.Experience analysing assessments, preparing valuation evidence and supporting negotiations.Strong written, analytical and client communication skills.The confidence to manage competing priorities and take ownership of your work.An RICS-accredited property degree, MRICS qualification or relevant IRRV accreditation.Experience using rating software and property data platforms would be helpful but is not essential.The firm is open to candidates at Surveyor or Senior Surveyor level, including recently qualified professionals, those with several years of post-qualification experience and strong candidates approaching their APC.
