We are working with a well-established construction business in Cambridgeshire seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team. Reporting directly to Senior Quantity Surveyors, this is an excellent opportunity for someone with around 2 years' experience who is looking to continue developing their commercial knowledge while gaining exposure to a broad range of projects. The business delivers a variety of construction schemes including commercial fit-out, refurbishment and new build projects, offering excellent experience across multiple sectors rather than specialising in a single area.

We're open to candidates from either a contractor or consultancy background, although contractor-side experience would be advantageous. More importantly, we're looking for someone with the right attitude – a proactive individual who is eager to learn, asks questions, and wants to build a long-term career in Quantity Surveying.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation of detailed cost plans, estimates and project budgets.
  • Support tender submissions and commercial evaluations.
  • Monitor project costs and assist in maintaining commercial control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Help identify variations and support change control processes.
  • Assist with subcontractor procurement, including obtaining quotations, issuing tender packages and evaluating returns.
  • Support the preparation of interim valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
  • Maintain accurate cost records, reports and commercial documentation.
  • Attend site visits and project meetings to monitor progress and gain exposure to project delivery.
  • Liaise with project managers, design teams, subcontractors and clients as required.
  • Assist Senior Quantity Surveyors with forecasting, reporting and commercial administration.
  • Ensure contractual and commercial procedures are followed throughout each project.
About You
  • Approximately 2 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying or Assistant Quantity Surveying role.
  • Experience within construction, commercial fit-out, refurbishment or new build projects.
  • Open to candidates from consultancy or contractor backgrounds.
  • Contractor-side experience would be advantageous.
  • Strong commercial awareness and willingness to learn.
  • Someone who is inquisitive, proactive and comfortable asking questions to further their development.
  • Good numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with various stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Relevant Quantity Surveying or Construction-related qualification preferred.
What's on Offer
  • Exposure to a diverse portfolio of projects across fit-out, refurbishment and new build sectors.
  • Ongoing support and mentoring from experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors.
  • Clear career progression opportunities.
  • Permanent position within a growing and successful business.

This role would suit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Junior Quantity Surveyor who has gained some initial industry experience and is looking for the next step in their career within a supportive and dynamic commercial team based in Cambridgeshire.
