Job Title - Senior Project Planning EngineerLocation: London Salary - Up to Β£115,000 plus car allowance, bonus, pension and an excellent packageAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Planner to join our client's team. To be considered for this role, you will ideally come from a Construction or Civil Engineering background.The Senior Planner will be responsible for managing the Planning and Programming function across key bids from Tender and Pre-Construction through to Construction. Key ResponsibilitiesAs Senior Planner, you will take a proactive lead on selected projects, producing detailed methodologies and programmes for both Pre-Construction and Construction activities.You will be responsible for collaboratively creating, maintaining, reviewing, and administering construction schedules and planning deliverables, including planning philosophies, presentations, and reports. The role also involves providing technical support on planning and zoning activities, identifying programme constraints, contract requirements, major quantities, and key factors impacting delivery alongside the wider project team and supply chain.Establishing and managing the critical path of the programmeReviewing and analysing programme performance with the wider teamCommunicating effectively throughout bid, tender, pre-construction, and construction phasesApplying resource allocation and resource levelling techniques where requiredPresenting project programmes and sequencing at both detailed and high-level formatsUnderstanding and implementing contractual requirements relating to initial and updated programme submissionsProducing periodic programme updates with supporting information for project reportingLiaising with third parties critical to the planning process, including Statutory Authorities, Utility Providers, Planning Authorities, and Design Consultants, ensuring all requirements are reflected within the programmeContract Stage ResponsibilitiesDuring the contract phase, the Senior Planner will be accountable to the Head of Planning / Project Lead for:Implementing and monitoring the overall planning strategy and sequencing of contract activitiesIdentifying and communicating any issues impacting programme deliveryIssuing and communicating the Contract Programme to the Project Lead for onward submission to the Client and Project TeamEnsuring all project planning and programming activities required for successful contract delivery are undertaken effectivelyProducing timely and accurate progress reports highlighting critical issues and proposed actionsSupporting commercial objectives by focusing on activities that deliver value to the projectUndertaking additional duties appropriate to the level of the roleEnsuring compliance with company policies and proceduresExperience & KnowledgeApplicants should have operational site experience (Site Engineer / Site Agent) combined with previous planning experience on Civil, Infrastructure, or Structural projects. Strong proficiency in planning techniques and planning software is essential.Tender documentation, contract documents, and specificationsPlanning, programming, and progress monitoring methodologiesRisk and opportunity management relating to planning and programmingDelay analysis and change entitlement processesConstruction methods, plant, equipment, and labour requirementsJCT and NEC forms of contractCivils, Groundworks, and Structures projectsSkillsStrong IT and planning software capability, including P6 and Asta PowerprojectExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to engage effectively with both clients and internal teamsSelf-motivated with the ability to work independentlyOrganised, proactive, and detail-oriented approachStrong organisational and planning abilitiesPositive attitude and willingness to learnQualificationsRelevant experience within the construction industryRecognised construction or technical discipline qualifications
