Cobalt are excited to be supporting an international architecture and design practice with a strong global presence to recruit an in-house legal counsel. The firm delivers design, planning, and consultancy services across a wide range of complex, high-profile projects for clients in multiple regions. Operating in a highly collaborative, project-based environment, the business works across borders and disciplines, supporting clients throughout the full lifecycle of major developments. They have an established international footprint, with teams operating across Europe, the Middle East, and other key global markets.
The legal counsel provides legal guidance and support across global projects and business operations, with a primary focus on Europe and the Middle East. Working as part of a lean in-house legal team, the role supports commercial contracting, risk management, and compliance activities in alignment with the organisation’s business objectives.
Responsibilities:- Provide legal guidance and support to project teams and business stakeholders across multiple regions.
- Review, draft, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including professional services agreements, subconsultant agreements, vendor contracts, NDAs, and related project documentation.
- Support projects throughout the full lifecycle, including RFP/RFQ review and contract administration queries.
- Identify, assess, and manage legal and commercial risk, escalating material issues where appropriate.
- Coordinate with local and external counsel on jurisdiction-specific legal, regulatory, and compliance matters.
- Support compliance and regulatory matters relevant to a global professional services or technology-enabled organisation.
- Assist with data protection and privacy matters, including GDPR and international equivalents.
- Review and comment on advice provided by external legal advisers.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of contract templates, guidance notes, and internal legal processes.
- Support internal legal training initiatives and monitor legal developments impacting the business globally.
- Communicate legal concepts clearly and practically to non-legal stakeholders.
- Balance legal risk with commercial and operational needs in a project-based environment.
- Effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Maintain professionalism and discretion when handling confidential matters.
- Provide timely and effective legal support that enables project delivery.
- Draft and negotiate contracts that protect the organisation’s legal and commercial interests.
- Build effective working relationships across teams, regions, and support functions.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes and documentation.
- Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in England and Wales, or admitted in another jurisdiction and authorised to practice in the UK in an in-house capacity.
- Experience gained in a law firm or in-house legal team within professional services, technology, or a commercial corporate environment.
- Strong experience in commercial contract drafting and negotiation.
- Working knowledge of legal risk management in a business context.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organised with strong analytical and time management skills.
- Experience supporting global or cross-regional work preferred, including exposure to the Middle East.
