Cobalt is delighted to be partnering with a leading independent planning and development consultancy to recruit an Assistant Consultant into its Socio-Economics Infrastructure and Economics team in London.

This is a great opportunity for a graduate or junior to join a highly regarded consultancy working on some of the UK's most significant development and infrastructure projects.

You'll gain exposure to nationally important schemes while working alongside respected specialists who will support your professional development from day one.

This role would suit an analytical and curious individual looking to build a career in socio-economics, economics or planning consultancy.

You'll contribute to a wide variety of commissions, helping clients demonstrate the social and economic value of major developments through robust research, data analysis and impact assessment.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Supporting senior colleagues with the delivery of socio-economic advice across development and infrastructure projects.
  • Undertaking economic research, data analysis and evidence gathering.
  • Assisting with Socio-Economic Environmental Impact Assessments and supporting planning applications.
  • Producing reports, presentations, maps and other visual outputs.
  • Analysing datasets using statistical techniques to inform client advice.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
  • Developing technical knowledge through mentoring, training and project experience.

You will ideally

  • Hold a relevant degree or possess equivalent experience.
  • Have an interest in planning, development and major infrastructure projects.
  • Have an understanding of socio-economic analysis or economic impact assessment.
  • Be confident working with data, statistics and Excel.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, written and communication skills.
  • Be organised, detail-oriented and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience using GIS would be advantageous but is not essential.
