A growing multidisciplinary consultancy is seeking an experienced Principal Ecologist to play a key role in delivering ecological projects across a diverse range of sectors including infrastructure, renewable energy and residential development. This opportunity would suit a highly capable technical specialist who enjoys combining project leadership, client management and mentoring responsibilities while remaining actively involved in technical delivery. You'll work closely with senior leaders to support team growth and help shape the future direction of the ecology service.
The Role
- Leading and delivering ecological projects from inception through to completion
- Managing Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA) and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) projects
- Providing technical leadership, quality assurance and report reviews
- Managing project budgets, programmes and resources
- Building and maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships
- Supporting business development activities, including bids and tender submissions
- Mentoring and supporting junior team members
- Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project solutions
- Representing the business within the industry and promoting ecological best practice
About You
- Degree qualified in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline
- Significant experience within ecological consultancy
- Strong technical expertise in EcIA, HRA and Biodiversity Net Gain
- Proven experience managing ecological projects and budgets
- Excellent report writing and technical review skills
- Strong understanding of UK planning policy, environmental legislation and industry best practice
- Membership of CIEEM or equivalent professional body
- Full UK driving licence

- Protected species licences
- Experience on major infrastructure or nationally significant projects
- Team leadership, mentoring or line management experience
- Experience working within multidisciplinary consultancy environments
