Cobalt Recruitment is delighted to be representing a well-established property management business in the search for an Assistant Centre Manager to support the operational delivery of a prominent retail and community destination in North Birmingham. This is a broad, site-based position offering exposure across facilities management, tenant liaison, commercialisation, market operations, and centre marketing within a high-footfall environment.

Working closely with the senior centre management team, the successful individual will play a key role in maintaining operational standards across the wider scheme while also taking ownership of a busy on-site market operation. The role offers an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Facilities Manager, Assistant Centre Manager, or Operations professional seeking a varied position with genuine responsibility and visibility across both operational and commercial aspects of a retail asset.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the day-to-day operational management of the shopping centre, ensuring high presentation and service standards are consistently maintained.
  • Assist with contractor management, including monitoring performance, reviewing RAMS, issuing permits to work, and overseeing compliance activities.
  • Participate in the delivery and monitoring of planned preventative maintenance programmes across the scheme.
  • Conduct regular tenant inspections and support the management of occupier relationships across the centre and market operation.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for market tenants, managing operational queries and resolving issues efficiently.
  • Oversee operational matters within the market environment including health & safety, inspections, maintenance coordination, and risk management.
  • Support market lettings activity, including negotiating within agreed parameters and proactively identifying new occupier opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate tenancy, licence, and compliance records through CAFM and internal management systems.
  • Assist in monitoring arrears, lease expiries, and operational reporting for internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Coordinate commercialisation activity and ensure operational compliance across promotional and mall space usage.
  • Support the delivery of centre-wide marketing initiatives alongside external agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to client reporting and attend stakeholder meetings as required.
Person Specification

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience within shopping centre, mixed-use, or commercial property operations, with exposure to facilities management and tenant-facing environments. Strong communication skills, a proactive approach, and the ability to manage multiple operational priorities are essential for this position. IOSH qualification or equivalent health & safety training would be advantageous, alongside experience using CAFM systems and strong Microsoft Excel capability. This role could also suit an ambitious Assistant FM or property operations professional looking to step into a broader centre management position within a large-scale retail environment in North Birmingham.
