About the job
You will supervise the clinical imaging assistant team on a day-to‑day basis, maintaining and monitoring workforce deployment across the clinical services, liaising with modality managers to achieve the skill mix based on the service requirements. As part of our team of clinical imaging assistants you will work closely with radiographers, consultant radiologists and surgeons and other healthcare professionals. The role is busy, varied and rewarding. Your day‑to‑day duties will include:
- Lead on‑shift supervision of the CIA team: allocate tasks and breaks, ensure cover across rooms/modalities/scanners and maintain a clear responsibility for team members.
- Provide real‑time oversight of patient flow, turnaround times and capacity; reprioritise work and redeploy staff as needed; escalates delays, incidents or staffing risks to line manager.
- Preparing patients for examination and accompanying patients to and from scanner rooms
- Carrying out patient safety screening checks
- Assisting radiographers and radiologists with procedures
- Clerical tasks such as data input, image transfer, ordering stock of consumable items
Shifts will involve working variable days over a 7‑day week, (mix of shifts 11.5hrs, 8hrs and 6hrs by rota with a 30‑minute unpaid break) based on rotation at Cheltenham Imaging Centre and Gloucester Community Diagnostic Centre. Enhancements apply to weekend and bank holiday working.
About you
The skills, experience and knowledge required for this role are a sound demonstrable educational background and qualifications, good IT skills, supervisory or leadership experience, extensive experience of working or volunteering with members of the general public. Proven experience of working or volunteering within a healthcare setting.
You will be committed to providing safe, caring and accessible care to patients. You will enjoy being part of a highly professional and diverse team. Flexibility and adaptability to change in a fast paced working environment. You will have a good understanding of health and safety, patient confidentiality, discretion and trustworthiness. Physical dexterity, co‑ordination and sensory skills will be essential in supporting radiographers with positioning patients for their scan. You will be reliable and a good attitude towards attendance and punctuality.
