Responsibilities
- Ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operation of the facility on a 24/7 shift basis.
- Lead and manage the shift team, ensuring effective control of plant operations in line with Health & Safety, Environmental Permit, and Company standards.
- Maximise plant availability and performance through effective monitoring, supervision, and coordination of operational and minor maintenance activities.
- Support continuous improvement of operational practices, procedures, and team capability.
- Ensure high standards of housekeeping, safety, and plant presentation.
- Provide shift cover for other Shift Team Leaders as required.

- Health & Safety performance – zero incidents, safe systems of work adhered to at all times.
- Environmental compliance – adherence to Environmental Permit limits (including CEMS performance).
- Plant availability and reliability during shift operation.
- Quality and accuracy of shift logs, records, and reports.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and control plant systems via DCS/HMI, including turbines, boilers, pumps, water treatment plant, and auxiliary systems.
- Start up, shut down, and monitor plant equipment safely and efficiently.
- Conduct routine plant walk‑downs, inspections, and checks to verify equipment condition and performance.
- Monitor Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) to ensure compliance with environmental permit conditions.
- Provide technical supervision and operational guidance to shift staff and contractors.
- Coordinate and support minor reactive maintenance and plant stoppages, including raising work requests on the maintenance management system.
- Supervise testing and treatment of boiler, cooling, and other plant water systems.
- Maintain accurate and complete shift records, logs, and performance data.
- Ensure high standards of housekeeping, safety, and plant presentation.
- Work as part of a 365‑day, 24/7 shift rota.
Key Accountabilities
- Accountability for safe operation of the plant during the shift.
- Compliance with Health & Safety legislation, company policies, and safe systems of work.
- Compliance with Environmental Permit conditions and reporting requirements.
- Accurate recording and reporting of plant performance and operational issues.
- Effective leadership, supervision, and development of the shift team.
- Contribution to the review, improvement, and implementation of operational SOPs.
- Prompt escalation of operational, safety, or environmental risks to management.
Essential / Preferred Experience
- Operational experience in power generation, steam raising, or a comparable industrial process environment.
- Experience operating plant from both control room and plant floor environments.
- Demonstrable experience using DCS / HMI / SCADA systems.
Qualifications
- HNC / NVQ in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent time‑served experience.
- Health & Safety qualifications (e.g. IOSH) desirable; training can be provided.
- NEBOSH / BOAS qualifications advantageous but not essential.
- Electrical AP / SAP experience desirable but not essential.
