Key Aims of this role:

  • To ensure the safe and reliable operations of the facility.
  • Using a DCS system to start and stop the MRF Plant and deal with emergency shutdowns.
  • Ensuring the plant operates within its parameters while complying with strict HSE rules and regulations as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Conducting plant walking tours and daily checks to ensure equipment is operating correctly and efficiently.
  • Producing daily reports highlighting downtime, incidents, and plant performance.
  • Supervising agency staff to ensure compliance with PPE requirements and task assignment.
  • Material tracking, inbound and outbound volumes, monitoring storage levels, and correct identification of baled products and storage.
  • Ensuring the plant is kept in a clean and tidy state and that all consumables stock levels are correct to enable continuous plant operation.
  • Providing technical supervision and assistance where necessary for company and contract staff and assistance in other plant operational areas when process dictates.
  • Working within the company Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality Systems.
  • Leading your team, providing direction and guidance to your shift team to undertake regular/scheduled plant walk-downs, adjust assets, and undertake inspections to check the condition of the plant equipment and record information as per the management system requirements/shift reports.
  • Supporting and coordinating minor reactive maintenance and process stoppage situations on shift including raising jobs on the maintenance system.
  • Enacting and assisting in the continuous improvement of operational Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensuring compliance with Environmental Permit conditions.
  • Maintaining accurate records of plant performance via full and accurate completion of shift log spreadsheet.
  • Effectively managing, mentoring, and coaching the Shift Team, ensuring individual development, engagement, and high performance.
  • Providing shift cover for other Shift Supervisors in the event of sickness, holidays, or training.
  • Working as part of a 365-day, 24/7 shift rota.

Key Accountabilities:

  • A relevant technical qualification such as HNC/NVQ in a relevant engineering discipline; or demonstrable time-served experience is preferred.
  • HMI, SCADA, DCS knowledge and experience is essential.
  • Demonstrable operational experience gained in plant operations process or the ability to demonstrate significant experience of the operation of mechanical processes via SCADA system.
  • Experience of MRF plant process management – MRF plant control room and MRF plant shop-floor environments.
  • A flexible working attitude and a strong team working approach are essential.
  • Strong communication skills with a logical approach to problem-solving.
  • Basic IT skills to undertake reporting via a computerised system.
  • A Health and Safety qualification, such as IOSH would be desirable; however, training will be provided.
  • Knowledge and experience of team development would be a distinct advantage.

Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

  • Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role within waste management, recycling, manufacturing, process operations, logistics, or a similar industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental requirements within an operational workplace.
  • Good standard of education, including good standards in English and Mathematics.
  • Ability to use computer systems and Microsoft Office applications for reporting, shift handovers, and performance monitoring.
  • Excellent communication and people management skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Operations Management, Waste Management, Process Operations, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
  • First Aid at Work qualification.
  • Experience working within a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), recycling facility, waste transfer station, or similar processing plant.
  • Licences for mobile plant – FEL/360/FLT (training can be provided to the successful candidate).
