We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join our client's growing engineering team in Peterborough, supporting the delivery of a major programme of investment across the water sector. This is an excellent opportunity to take a technical lead on a diverse portfolio of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, helping to deliver innovative, practical and sustainable engineering solutions across the East of England.

Working as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, you'll play a key role in driving design quality, reviewing technical outputs and supporting projects from design through to construction. You’ll also have the opportunity to lead and mentor junior engineers while contributing to new approaches around digital engineering, offsite construction, low‑carbon design and repeatable solutions.

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you’ll take technical responsibility for civil engineering design across a range of water recycling treatment works and associated infrastructure projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical leadership across water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Producing, checking and reviewing civil engineering designs, calculations, drawings and 3D models.
  • Ensuring designs comply with relevant industry standards, statutory regulations and client specifications.
  • Managing design risks and ensuring health, safety and CDM requirements are embedded throughout the design process.
  • Working closely with construction teams to undertake buildability reviews and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Providing technical support and responding to queries from construction teams and the wider supply chain.
  • Supporting the development of modular construction, offsite manufacturing and repeatable design solutions.
  • Collaborating with BIM teams, designers, engineers and key project stakeholders.
  • Driving design quality while ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, on programme and within budget.
  • Mentoring and supporting Civil Engineers and junior members of the team with their technical and professional development.
  • Sharing technical knowledge, lessons learned and best practice across the wider engineering team.
  • Championing sustainable and low‑carbon design while identifying opportunities to enhance natural capital.

We're looking for an experienced and technically confident Civil Engineer who is comfortable taking the lead on complex engineering challenges. Ideally, you will have:

  • A degree or Master's in Civil Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or be working towards Chartership with the ICE or IStructE.
  • Strong civil design experience within the UK water industry.
  • Experience delivering detailed designs within a design and build environment.
  • Good technical knowledge of reinforced concrete design to BS EN 1992.
  • Experience designing water‑retaining structures.
  • Knowledge of ground engineering, buried pipework, drainage and reinforcement detailing.
  • An understanding of steel and masonry design.
  • Experience with civil layouts and associated site infrastructure, including roads and drainage.
  • Experience checking engineering designs and carrying out site surveys.
  • Experience working with 3D and BIM models.
  • A strong understanding of CDM Regulations and health, safety and welfare considerations within engineering design.
  • The confidence to provide technical leadership and support less experienced engineers.
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused approach to engineering challenges.

Experience or a strong interest in digital engineering, offsite construction, modular design and sustainable engineering solutions would also be highly advantageous.

This is an opportunity to join a major programme of infrastructure investment and work on projects that have a genuine long‑term impact on communities and the environment. Our client offers a supportive and collaborative working environment where experienced engineers are given the opportunity to influence design, introduce new ideas and continue developing professionally.

The package includes:

  • Competitive salary and package
  • Permanent position
  • 25 days' annual leave
  • Flexible and smart working arrangements
  • Hybrid working opportunities, with up to 40% remote working where the role allows
  • Company pension
  • Family-friendly policies
  • Professional development and support towards Chartership
  • Employee recognition schemes
  • Volunteering leave
  • Long‑term career development opportunities

If you’re an experienced Senior Civil Engineer with a background in the UK water sector and are looking for a role where you can take technical ownership, develop others and contribute to major infrastructure projects, we’d be keen to hear from you.
