An established and growing planning consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Retail Planner to join its team. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded planner to take a leading role in retail-focused projects while also contributing to a broader portfolio of planning work.

The Role

Retail planning expertise is central to this position. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality retail planning advice across a range of instructions, including:

  • Preparation of development plan evidence base documents for both public and private sector clients
  • Retail needs assessments
  • Retail impact assessments
  • Sequential site assessments

In addition to retail work, there will be opportunities to support projects across a wider sector portfolio, including strategic land promotion, regeneration schemes, reserved matters applications, and specialist residential sectors. This role offers flexibility in level, depending on experience, and would suit either a retail-focused Senior Planner or a more experienced planner seeking to concentrate more heavily on retail planning work.

About You

Candidates must demonstrate:

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in retail planning
  • Experience contributing to development plan evidence base work
  • A strong track record in preparing retail needs, impact and sequential assessments
  • Strong analytical capability and confidence working with data
  • Advanced Excel skills (essential)
  • A sound understanding of the economic principles underpinning retail planning
  • Clear and confident written communication skills
