An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Development Manager to join a privately owned real estate business with an established track record of delivering major developments across the UK.

With a substantial pipeline of PBSA and hotel projects at different stages of the development lifecycle, this Senior Development Manager role offers the opportunity to take ownership of complex schemes from early design and planning through procurement, construction and handover.

Our client is an established, privately owned real estate business operating across sectors including PBSA, hotels and residential living.

The business manages more than £2 billion of assets and has end-to-end capabilities spanning acquisition, design, planning, development and asset management.

Its strong development pipeline provides the incoming Senior Development Manager with exposure to substantial projects at planning, procurement and delivery stages.

The Role and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Development Director, the Senior Development Manager will take responsibility for projects across the development lifecycle, working closely with internal teams and external partners to achieve commercial, programme and quality objectives.

Key responsibilities will include

  • Leading projects through design, planning, procurement, construction and handover.
  • Appointing and managing professional teams, contractors and consultants.
  • Securing planning consent alongside statutory and third-party approvals, working with relevant internal teams.
  • Managing project programmes, budgets, risks and change control while keeping senior stakeholders informed of progress.
  • Working with the Projects and Commercial teams to progress designs through procurement and construction.
  • Managing relationships with stakeholders including funders, joint venture partners, planning authorities, operators and contractors.
  • Ensuring developments meet relevant regulatory, quality and safety requirements.
  • Supporting and managing members of the development team, promoting effective performance and development.
  • Contributing to Senior Development Team and project review meetings, including reporting on project performance and key issues.

The Senior Development Manager will work across a pipeline that includes substantial PBSA and hotel schemes at planning, procurement and construction stages.

The Skills and Requirements

We are looking for a Senior Development Manager with the technical and commercial knowledge to take ownership of complex development projects.

The successful candidate will have

  • Advanced working knowledge of property development or project management, with experience taking complex schemes through multiple development stages.
  • Working knowledge of the planning, design, procurement and construction processes.
  • Experience managing professional teams, consultants and contractors.
  • Working knowledge of project budgets, programmes, risk management and change control.
  • An understanding of planning and building regulations, industry standards and relevant statutory requirements.
  • The ability to build effective relationships with internal teams, funders, operators and other external stakeholders.
  • A degree in construction, engineering, architecture or a related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of relevant project management systems and tools.
  • Experience within PBSA, hotels or comparable large-scale living sectors would be particularly relevant.
