We are currently recruiting for a Workshop Engineer to join an established engineering team in Redditch, responsible for the maintenance, repair and preparation of specialist materials-handling equipment.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer, technician, fitter or engineer with a background in forklifts, plant, HGVs, automotive, agricultural machinery or similar equipment.
Forklift experience is desirable but not essential, as full product and technical training will be provided for the right candidate.
The Role
Working as part of the workshop team and reporting to the Rental Team Leader, you will be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, repair and preparation of forklift trucks to ensure they are safe, reliable and ready for rental.
Your responsibilities will include
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PM) on forklift trucks.
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
- Completing pre-delivery inspections (PDI) and off-hire inspections.
- Preparing and refurbishing rental fleet equipment.
- Stripping down, repairing and repainting forklifts where required.
- Identifying and communicating chargeable repairs to the rental administration team.
- Completing service reports, inspection documents and timesheets accurately.
- Ensuring all repairs are completed to a high standard and within agreed timescales.
- Working in accordance with company health and safety procedures.
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop environment.
- Supporting continuous improvement across the workshop.
About You
We are looking for someone who is hands‑on, reliable and technically minded, with good mechanical, electrical and hydraulic knowledge.

You should have
- Strong mechanical, electrical and hydraulic fault‑finding skills.
- Good diagnostic and problem‑solving ability.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good organisational and time‑management skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A strong commitment to health and safety.
- A professional and proactive approach to your work.
LOLER inspection experience would be advantageous, but is not essential.
Formal engineering qualifications are not essential where you can demonstrate strong, relevant hands‑on experience.
