We are currently recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a busy operational environment based in West Bromwich.

This is a hands-on role where you will play an important part in maintaining and improving health and safety standards across the business.

You will work closely with management and employees to identify risks, investigate incidents and promote a positive safety culture.

The Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for

  • Ensuring compliance with current UK Health & Safety legislation and company procedures
  • Carrying out workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments
  • Identifying hazards and implementing practical solutions to reduce risk
  • Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses
  • Developing and reviewing risk assessments, safe systems of work and H&S policies
  • Delivering health and safety inductions, toolbox talks and training
  • Providing advice and guidance to managers and employees
  • Ensuring statutory inspections, testing and certifications are completed
  • Supporting fire safety, emergency preparedness and first aid arrangements
  • Managing contractor and visitor safety requirements
  • Maintaining accurate health and safety records and documentation
  • Monitoring H&S performance and identifying trends
  • Liaising with external auditors, agencies and regulatory bodies where required
  • Supporting environmental and employee wellbeing initiatives
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement across the workplace

About You

We're looking for someone with

  • Previous experience in a Health & Safety role, ideally 1–2 years or more
  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and incident investigations
  • Good knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organisational and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Confidence communicating with employees and management
  • A proactive approach to workplace safety
  • Good Microsoft Office skills

Desirable

  • NEBOSH qualification
  • First Aid at Work
  • Experience within manufacturing, engineering, warehousing or another industrial environment
  • Experience with continuous improvement initiatives
