Coates Recruitment is working with a well-established and growing engineering manufacturer looking to recruit an Engineering Buyer to join its procurement team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Buyer with a technical or engineering background who enjoys working closely with engineering, production and supply chain teams. You’ll play a key role in sourcing engineered components, negotiating with suppliers and ensuring materials are delivered on time to support manufacturing operations.
The successful candidate will join a business that designs and manufactures bespoke engineering equipment, offering a varied role with genuine responsibility, long-term career development and the opportunity to influence supplier performance and procurement strategy.
Key Responsibilities- Source and procure engineered components, raw materials, tooling and technical services
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and bills of materials (BOMs)
- Negotiate pricing, lead times and supplier agreements to achieve the best commercial outcome
- Build and manage strong supplier relationships, monitoring quality, delivery and performance
- Work closely with Engineering, Production and Quality teams to ensure technical requirements are met
- Maintain accurate purchasing data, supplier information and inventory records using ERP/MRP systems
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, supplier optimisation and continuous improvement
- Resolve supply chain issues, shortages and supplier-related queries
- Support new product introduction by sourcing components for prototype and production builds
- Engineering or technical procurement within a manufacturing environment
- Purchasing engineered components and materials
- Reading engineering drawings and bills of materials
- Supplier negotiation and relationship management
- ERP/MRP systems and procurement software
- Strong commercial awareness and cost control
- Working collaboratively with engineering and production teams
- CIPS qualification or Engineering qualification (advantageous but not essential)
- Salary up to £48,000 depending on experience
