About Us
Coastal Vets is an independent, family-oriented practice in Snettisham in beautiful Norfolk. We started as a purely ambulatory service, but quickly outgrew this and needed to set up a permanent base. Since then, we have continued to grow both as a team and as a practice, having completely rebuilt our premises in 2017 and opened a new branch clinic in Burnham Market.
Due to one of our lovely nurses emigrating, we\âre now looking for an RVN to join our fantastic and supportive nursing team. Weâre currently a team of 5 RVNs, 2 SVNs who are set to qualify this summer, and a VCA who will soon start her nurse training.
Weâre an RCVS Accredited Vet Nurse Training Practice, led by our Head Nurse Karen, who joined us in 2017. Karen qualified in 1998 and brings a wealth of experience from mixed, corporate, and charity practice, plus further training in wildlife care. Amy, our Deputy Head Nurse, trained here and qualified here in 2016. She has been part of the team ever since.
No matter where you are in your career, weâll help you grow, explore your interests, and build your confidence with all the support you need. Within our team, we have nurses with certificates in feline nursing and exotics, and two of our RVNs have completed the RECOVER course in veterinary CPR. Weâre all about encouraging each other to follow our passions and keep learningâbecause when we grow, our patients benefit too.
But donât just take our word for it, hereâs what the team has to say:
âIâve worked at Coastal Vets for the last seven years as their Head Nurse. The team is progressive and supportive, and we are encouraged to grow professionally and personally. The working environment is positive, and we enjoy building good client relationships.â Karen, Head RVN
âSince joining Coastal, I have had the chance to expand my knowledge and confidence in my nursing by completing a certificate and with the support of a friendly, loyal team.â Jess RVN
âI have worked at Coastal for the past year and couldnât be happier that I found such a supportive and caring team. Coastal still has that family-oriented feel, and patients and clients are treated as such. I have grown as a nurse from working with such knowledgeable colleagues and seeing such a varied caseload, including wildlife from the local sea life centre.â Abbi RVN
âSince starting at Coastal Vets as a new graduate, the vets, nurses and reception team have all been extremely supportive during the early stages of my career. The ethos of the practice aligns with my values and enables me to work to the best of my ability. I cannot recommend Coastal Vets enough!â Alex MRCVS
Our Work
We enjoy a varied and interesting caseload, supported by a 7-vet team with a wide range of clinical interests. Miriam holds a certificate in imaging, and Teresa has recently completed her cardiology certificate, bringing valuable expertise to the team. Weâre also proud to support the Hunstanton Sea Life Centre and Norfolkâs Seal Rescue, caring for both common and grey seal species from across the region. This unique partnership brings an exciting twist to our clinical workâweâve x-rayed a penguin and performed procedures on catfish, rays, and even a shark!
Our purpose-built premises are fully equipped to support high-quality patient care. We have DR digital and dental X-ray, ultrasound with colour flow Doppler, multiparameter monitoring, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, gastroscopy, and an in-house Idexx laboratory. Our branch clinic currently operates as a consult-only site, with any patients requiring hospitalisation cared for at our main practice.
About the Role
Weâre looking for an RVN who enjoys all aspects of nursing and wants to play a meaningful role in practice life, helping us provide the very best care to our patients and their owners. Everyone here shares responsibilities, working on a rotating rota that includes operating nurse, prep nurse, wards, consults, and float duties. This way, youâll have the chance to follow your cases, build lasting relationships with patients and clients, and continue developing your skills across a wide range of areas.
Our full-time rota is a 4-day week, with a set day off and just 1 in 7 Saturdays. Weâre also happy to chat about other options, such as 5 shorter days. Our out-of-hours are outsourced, so there are no nights, Sundays or bank holidays to work. The 1:7 Saturday includes a consulting shift between 9 am and 12 pm, followed by being on-call along with the vet for any emergencies until 4 pm, when the phones go over to our OOH provider.
We Offer:
- A salary from ÂŁ31,000, depending on experience
- A welcome bonus of ÂŁ1,000 in addition to the first monthâs salary to help with relocation costs
- 5 weeksâ holiday, plus bank holidays
- Professional fees paid for RCVS, VDS and BVNA
- Generous CPD budget, certificates supported and funded
- Private health insurance and Employee Assistance Programme
- Pension
