We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Support Worker to join our team for 30 hours per week. The successful candidate will initially be based within our Early Years setting, although the age group and placement may change depending on the needs of the school.
The successful candidate will provide tailored support to children with special educational needs, working 1:1 and in small groups to support their learning, development and wellbeing. You will play an important role in helping children build confidence, develop independence and engage positively with their learning and school environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with additional needs.
- Supporting pupils' academic, social, emotional, communication and physical development.
- Supporting children to access the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum through play-based and structured activities.
- Providing targeted academic support and adapting activities and resources to meet individual needs.
- Supporting early literacy, phonics, numeracy and communication skills.
- Encouraging independence, confidence and positive relationships with peers and adults.
- Supporting speech, language and communication development.
- Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and other professionals to implement individual support strategies and targets.
- Observing and recording pupils' progress and contributing to assessments where appropriate.
- Supporting positive behaviour and helping to create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
- Working collaboratively with staff and maintaining positive relationships with parents and carers.
- Being flexible and adaptable to support pupils across different age groups and areas of the school as required.
We are looking for someone who is patient, nurturing, reliable and passionate about supporting children with additional needs. Experience of working within an Early Years setting, alongside a good understanding of EYFS, SEN provision and supporting children's individual learning needs, would be desirable.
Job Purpose
To work with teachers as part of a professional team to support teaching and learning for SEN pupils.Providing learning support to pupils who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning, such as thosewith moderate, severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties and/or behavioural, social, communication,sensory or physical disabilities.
Key Duties / Responsibilities
- Implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes as directed by the teacher, adjusting activities according to pupils’ responses as appropriate
- Providing feedback to the teacher on pupil progress and behaviour
- Support the teacher in recording pupil progress/activities
- Provide feedback to pupils in relation to attainment and progress under the guidance of the teacher
- Support learning by arranging/providing resources for lessons/activities under the direction of theteacher
- Support pupils in social and emotional well-being, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate
- Share information about pupils with other staff, parents / carers, internal and external agencies, asappropriate
- Understand and support independent learning and inclusion of all pupils as required
- Work with pupils on therapy or care programmes, designed and supervised by a therapist/care
- Attend to pupils’ personal needs including toileting, hygiene, dressing and eating, as well as help withsocial, welfare and health matters, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate. Physically assistpupils in activities (may involve short periods of lifting, where mobility is an issue)
- Administer medication in accordance with an agreed plan under direction of healthcare practitionerand following appropriate training
- Update pupil records
- Supervise individuals and groups of pupils throughout the day, including supervision in theclassroom, playground and dining areas
- Assist with break-time supervision including facilitating games and activities
- Assist with escorting pupils on educational visits
- Support pupils in using basic ICT
- Undertake moving and handling activities as required, assembling and cleaning away of equipment
- Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within theacademy, raising any concerns following academy protocol/procedures
- Any other duties appropriate to the post.
