We are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate and well-qualified teacher to lead the Politics department, with the ability to teach another subject to A Level standard, e.g. History or Economics.
We are looking for someone who:
- Takes a keen interest in the welfare of the pupils and shows a clear commitment to safeguarding children.
- Has a passion for Politics, and for teaching.
- Can lead the Politics department including curriculum planning and implementation, assessment design and monitoring, responsibility for external exam entries and mock moderation, organising and leading trips in the UK and abroad, seeking opportunities for students to participate in external events such as competitions or workshops.
- Is an excellent classroom practitioner, with a strong academic background and subject knowledge.
- Has a commitment to professional development and is fully informed of current educational initiatives, especially relating to Politics.
- Has great communication skills, exceptional organisation and a high level of attention to detail.
- Has a desire to be involved in the wider life of the school, such as, for example, leading a Model United Nations Society.
The Politics Department consists of two teachers, both of whom will continue teaching politics, and are members of the Senior Leadership Team. The aim of the Politics Department is to better develop the enthusiasm of pupils for the subject whilst enabling them to develop a thorough understanding of global and UK politics. As a Sixth Form only curriculum subject the Politics Department is also keen to engage younger pupils through, for example, Model United Nations and contributions to the school's enrichment programmes.
Politics A Level (Edexcel) has grown in popularity in recent years and our results are very strong. The Department teaches British and global politics, and political ideas. A significant number of pupils continue to read politics or related degrees at leading universities each year. The Politics Department organises mock elections to coincide with UK general elections, and organises a significant number of day trips, to the Houses of Parliament, the Supreme Court, and conferences as well as a biennial trip to Brussels.
Interested candidates are invited to submit an application via My New Term. The closing date for applications is 10:00am on Wednesday 19th March 2025. First stage interviews will be online via Teams on Friday 21st March. Final stage will take place in person on Tuesday 25th March. The school reserves the right to appoint at any stage.
