Applications are invited for the position of Head at Felsted School, to succeed Chris Townsend after ten years of exceptional leadership.

Felsted School is a leading co-educational HMC boarding and day school educating circa 1,000 students aged 4-18. Located in a rural village in North Essex, the School occupies an 80-acre campus. Felsted is non-selective and welcomes a diverse student body and emphasises a grounded, inclusive community. In recent years, Felsted has celebrated 50 years of co-education (2020) and was named Boarding School of the Year at the 2023 TES Schools Awards.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a visionary leader with whole-school responsibility who is deeply committed to the School’s ethos and values. The Head will combine the qualities of a forward-thinking educationalist with those of a strategic, commercially astute leader, possessing strong financial acumen and business instincts.

Responsibilities

This is a senior leadership role with a focus on steering the School through a period of change and growth. The Head will:

  • Provide strategic direction to the whole school and lead on its development and ethos.
  • Inspire and motivate pupils and staff and engage with a wide range of stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Ensure the School continues to prepare its pupils to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.

Qualifications and Attributes

The successful candidate will have a track record of exceptional academic leadership, sound financial judgment, and a demonstrated ability to lead with impact, energy, and ambition.
