Lead RF system design and own RF testing/validation for next‑generation, high‑security communication systems operating in defence‑grade, remote and missile‑type environments.
This role suits an engineer who can architect RF solutions from first principles, challenge assumptions early, and then prove performance through rigorous bench and environmental testing.
Role Purpose
Drive RF system architecture, circuit design, modelling, test strategy and verification for a fast‑moving, low‑TRL programme.
Shape unclear requirements into actionable specifications, mature concepts into prototypes, and validate performance under demanding operational conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- RF system architecture — Define, model and develop RF communication architectures for missile‑type and remote platforms.
- RF circuit design — Design and simulate RF circuits, filters, amplifiers, antennas and signal paths using HFSS/ADS/CST/MATLAB.
- Requirements definition — Convert vague or incomplete requirements into clear, testable engineering specifications.
- Design‑to‑cost input — Challenge assumptions, support Df X reviews, and contribute to cost‑driven engineering decisions.
- Black‑channel integration — Work with secure/isolated communication pathways and remote operation constraints.
- TRL development — Mature low‑TRL concepts into testable prototypes with accelerated learning cycles.
- Cross‑functional collaboration — Partner with systems, safety, remote ops and turbo‑jet SMEs.
- Documentation — Produce design notes, white‑paper‑style justification, and acceptance criteria.
- Testing & Validation Responsibilities
- RF test planning — Define test strategies for comms, missile‑type RF systems and remote operation platforms.
- Bench testing — Execute RF measurements (S‑parameters, gain, noise figure, VSWR, power output).
- Environmental testing — Validate RF performance under vibration, thermal, shock and acceleration conditions.
- Failure acceleration — Identify failure modes early and accelerate discovery safely.
- Black‑channel validation — Test secure/isolated communication pathways.
- Test documentation — Produce test reports, acceptance criteria and traceability packs.
- Design review support — Feed test insights into DFMEA and design‑to‑cost reviews.
