CMC are currently looking for a Product Design Specialist (Mechanical CAD) to join our Darlington site. This is a contract opportunity with potential for extension following a positive evaluation.
In this role you will lead design and development for engineering assignments including products, parts, components, systems, or portions of major projects. This product-focused position applies specialized knowledge of engineering principles and design practices to create optimized design concepts and mechanical design specifications, considering application, cost, weight, performance, reliability, durability, manufacturing, assembly, and serviceability.
This role effectively communicates the capability of a design concept to meet cross-functional requirements, including assessment of alternative and competitive design concepts, and works effectively across cross-functional disciplines to develop corporate and customer requirements, including those required to resolve product issues.

- Lead design and development activities for products, parts, components, systems, or elements of major engineering projects
- Own component or subsystem design from concept through validation, considering cost, weight, performance, reliability, durability, manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability
- Communicate design intent through detailed Design Review packages to PPT, VPI, and VPCR teams
- Lead design concept selection, optimisation, and specification definition
- Apply and execute engineering processes and tools including: iDFMEA, DVA, GD&T, Creo (mandatory)
- Work independently with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers and manufacturing teams
- Provide technical leadership on complex components or smaller projects with full accountability
- Support continuous improvement of engineering processes and systems
- Coordinate and guide technicians and early-career engineers where required
- Proven ownership of engine system or component development
- Strong 3D CAD modelling and mechanical design experience (Creo required)
- Engine component or system analysis experience (essential)
- Ability to work independently across cross-functional teams
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present and justify design decisions
- Experience with Windchill PLM
- Recent experience in ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) component design and development
