Construction Project Manager in Bournemouth

Overview

CMC is supporting a major EPC contractor in the electricity and renewable energy sector and seeking an experienced Project Manager for framework programmes across the UK. These projects involve turnkey HV substation construction ranging from £20m to £150m, covering 400kV, 275kV and 132kV infrastructure.

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead, coordinate and oversee the engineering and construction of high‑voltage substation projects. The role will involve managing multidisciplinary teams across civils, M&E installation and commissioning activities.

Responsibilities

• Manage delivery of two concurrent HV substation sites (132kV–400kV), covering mechanical, electrical and construction phases.
• Act as the primary interface with the client, owning deliverables across engineering, construction, installation, commissioning and commercial workstreams.
• Maintain a strong safety culture throughout the project, working closely with EHS teams.
• Provide effective stakeholder, subcontractor and client management—including regular progress reporting.
• Oversee project planning, ensuring realistic, achievable and well‑controlled delivery programmes.
• Collaborate with commercial teams on contract compliance, change management, risk mitigation and support for new bids.

Requirements

• 4+ years of Project Management experience within the electrical infrastructure or HV substation sector.
• HNC or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Project Management or Construction Management.
• Willingness to spend 2–3 days per week on site as required.
• Project management training or qualifications (APM, PRINCE2, PMI) are beneficial.
• Strong stakeholder management, commercial understanding and subcontractor oversight.
• Excellent client‑facing skills and ability to coordinate multiple workstreams effectively.
