At UPP Exeter, we're looking for a Maintenance Assistant to join our dedicated onsite team, helping to ensure our student residences are safe, comfortable and operating at their very best.

This is a permanent position working 37.5 hours per week on a 7-week rolling rota between the hours of 8am and 11pm, with most weeks being 9am-5pm.

The rota includes some weekend working with days off during the week to provide you with work life balance.

The salary for this role is £27,793 per annum.

Key responsibilities

  • Carrying out reactive maintenance and repairs in line with service level agreements
  • Providing a first-line response to maintenance issues across our accommodation
  • Maintaining clean, safe and presentable communal areas and external spaces throughout the year
  • Supporting the safe movement of furniture, mattresses, white goods and waste materials
  • Identifying and reporting Health & Safety concerns and escalating issues where required
  • Contributing to a positive student experience through excellent customer service

You’ll enjoy a varied, hands‑on role where no two days are the same, working within a supportive team and making a visible difference to the experience of thousands of students throughout the year.

  • Required skills and experience
  • An understanding of building services and safe working practices
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements and a commitment to working safely at all times
  • A proactive, flexible approach and willingness to support the wider team when needed
  • The ability to work additional hours during peak student arrival and departure periods, when required and with notice
  • A full UK driving licence

Most importantly, we're looking for someone with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a passion for making a difference.

We will provide shadowing, training and development to help you build your skills on the job and succeed in the role.
