Permanent full-time position at Nottingham University. The role involves providing both planned and responsive maintenance services, specialising in electrical and mechanical repairs across the campus residences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake maintenance within the residences in a safe working environment, assessing all Health and Safety issues before work commences and reporting any hazards identified to the relevant Manager.
  • Carry out reactive maintenance in accordance with the Service Level Agreement and provide front-line response for all plant and installation work.
  • Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance in accordance with the scheduled works and liaise with specialist sub-contractors.
  • Maintain accurate records of breakdowns and maintenance repairs, including records for statutory compliance.
  • Carry out statutory testing, including fire alarm testing, emergency lighting tests, ad-hoc PAT testing and other required inspections.
  • Report any Health and Safety issues relating to the residences, ensuring all information is passed to the relevant persons.
  • Take the lead in electrical stock management (ordering, storage, distribution), ensuring appropriate parts are held and available to meet SLA timescales for repair.
  • Assist team colleagues in other trades as and when required and assist with team development, including cross-trade skills sharing.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Fully qualified electrician with one of the following essential qualifications: City & Guilds 236 / 2360 / 2330 / 2356 / 2357 to Year 2 or Level 3 (dependent on qualification) or equivalent EAL electrical qualification to Year 2 / Level 3.
  • Ideally, additional qualifications including City & Guilds 2382, The 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and City & Guilds 2391 (or equivalent) in Inspection & Testing. Work experience in a similar role and environment is highly regarded.
  • Excellent communication, IT and organisational skills, with a passion for delivering high-quality work.
  • Current manual UK driving licence – essential for the role.
  • Strong understanding of operational procedures, building services systems, and health and safety practices. Ability to work safely at all times.
  • Willingness to work additional hours when required, especially during main student arrival and departure weekends.
