About the role
A Multi Skilled Technician (Electrical) working as part of the maintenance team at Nottingham University.
This is a permanent full-time position, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Salary is up to £38,110 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.
A current manual UK driving licence is essential.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake maintenance within residences in a safe working environment, assessing all health and safety issues before work commences and reporting any hazards identified to the relevant manager.
- Carry out reactive maintenance in accordance with the Service Level Agreement and provide front‑line response for all plant and installation work.
- Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance in accordance with scheduled works and liaise with specialist sub‑contractors.
- Maintain accurate records of breakdowns and maintenance repairs, including records for statutory compliance.
- Carry out statutory testing including fire alarm testing, emergency lighting tests, ad‐hoc PAT testing and other required tests.
- Report any health and safety issues relating to the residences ensuring all information is passed to the relevant persons.
- Take the lead in electrical stock management (ordering, storage, distribution) ensuring appropriate parts are held and available to meet SLA timescales for repair.
- Assist team colleagues in other trades as and when required and assist with team development including cross‑trade skill sharing.
Qualifications and experience
- Fully qualified electrician with City & Guilds 236 / 2360 / 2330 / 2356 / 2357 to Year 2 or Level3 (depending on qualification) or equivalent EAL electrical qualification to Year2 / Level3.
- Ideally, additional qualifications City & Guilds 2382, The 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and City & Guilds 2391 (or equivalent) in Inspection & Testing.
- Experience in a similar role and environment.
- Great communication, IT and organisation skills, along with the passion to do a great job.
- Prepared to bring qualification certificates to the interview.
- Additional requirements
- Good understanding of operational procedures and safe working practices of building services and systems.
- Ability to always work in a safe manner and report health and safety issues.
- Prepared to work additional hours when needed, especially during the main student arrival and departure weekends.
