The Women & Girls Health Promotion Specialist Nurse Advisor is a senior nursing position within Sexual Health and HIV Services. This role combines specialised clinical practice with health promotion and service development, focusing on improving sexual and reproductive health outcomes for women and girls in Camden and the larger North Central London area through community outreach, education, and specialised care.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist sexual and reproductive healthcare, including contraception advice, STI screening, and health promotion interventions.
  • Lead community outreach programmes aimed at improving menstrual health, contraception access, and reducing health inequalities among women and girls.
  • Develop and deliver education and training sessions for schools, healthcare professionals, and community organisations.
  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies to improve referral pathways and access to services.
  • Assess and support vulnerable individuals, ensuring appropriate safeguarding measures are implemented.
  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision, and mentorship to junior staff and students.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and contribute to service development, quality improvement, and professional standards.

Qualifications and Education

  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • DFRSH / DCSRH Diploma
  • STIF Intermediate & Advanced Competencies
  • Letter of Competence Subdermal Implant Techniques Insertion and Removal (LoC SDI-IR)
  • Letter of Competence Intrauterine Techniques (LoC IUT)
  • Practice Assessor/Supervisor Training

Experience

  • Experience in Sexual and Reproductive Health
  • Experience working in Sexual Health as a Nurse-Midwife Practitioner or using Patient Group Directions
  • Experience working with diverse client groups
  • Experience delivering evidence-based clinical care
  • Ability to work autonomously and be self-directed
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation
  • Ability to motivate, manage and lead staff
  • Ability to build relationships with external partners, including schools, local authorities and community organisations

Skills

  • Teaching and presentation skills
  • In-depth knowledge of women’s reproductive health needs and issues, including menstrual health, preconception care and contraception
  • Up-to-date knowledge of integrated sexual health needs
  • Sound understanding of legislation, policies and guidance on confidentiality and safeguarding of young people and adults
