Joining our Prisons Health Care Team means supporting the mental health needs of patients in secure environments and promoting health and well-being. Services operate on a 7-day week model to ensure continuous patient care. Our motto is “Caring NOT Judging”. We work with the criminal justice system and other agencies to provide high-quality primary care and mental health services, improving health and social inclusion.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a new model of care (NMOC) and to develop your clinical and interpersonal skills within a diverse population. Feltham B is a Category C male adult prison aligning services to NMOC to promote patient safety and continuity of care, risk management, and handover to community or other establishments. The NMOC includes four core teams: EDIC (Early Days in Custody), Planned Care, Urgent and Emergency Care, and Release and Transfer. The model supports a whole-pathway, patient-centred approach with multidisciplinary working and governance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities: Please see attached job description for full list of duties. The post holder should have experience in forensic mental health services and may have experience with neuro-developmental needs (LD, ADHD, social communication, ASD). You will supervise students, provide specialist OT assessments and interventions, and advise within a MDT approach. The role involves contributing to the Occupational Therapy programme and developing group provision within the wider prison setting.
This role requires resilience and a collaborative, holistic approach within a dynamic environment and a dedicated team.
Person specification:
- Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC registered Occupational Therapist
- Post-graduate training in mental health
- Specialist skills in therapeutic/sensory interventions
- Training in delivering sensory-based interventions and assessments
- Practice placement educators’ course
- Previous Experience
- Post-qualification experience in mental health services
- Experience with standardised OT assessments
- Experience in partnership working with external providers
- Experience in completing Risk Assessment Tools
- Experience in prison and/or secure settings
- Experience delivering interventions to young people in mental health settings
- Experience supervising students/junior staff
- Experience contributing to care for neurodiverse individuals
