Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Physiotherapist to join our Children’s Integrated Therapy Team here in Hillingdon. We welcome applications from qualified therapists who are looking for a change or from newly qualified therapists with a strong desire to work in the area of community paediatrics. Our service is responsible for providing physiotherapy intervention to children within the borough of Hillingdon, treating children and young adults with physical impairments and/or developmental difficulties.

Main duties of the job:

• You will work as part of a multidisciplinary paediatric team and work closely alongside Occupational Therapists, Speech and language therapists and therapy assistants.
• The caseload includes orthopaedics (torticollis, talipes, Erb’s Palsy etc) to complex conditions.
• The caseload you will be responsible for will be highly varied and promote your clinical and professional development.
• Clinics that we offer include CPIP-UK and serial casting, as well as running developmental, exercise and gym groups.
• Multi-disciplinary working with various other health professionals and the local authority is a vital component of this position.

The successful candidate will be expected to be highly motivated, energetic and a true team player with some experience in paediatric physiotherapy. Excellent communication skills are expected and own transport will also be beneficial.

We are committed to developing services with true coproduction, within the Children's Integrated Therapy Team (CITS) there are a number of targeted work streams focusing on this.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• To provide paediatric therapeutic assessment, education, advice and treatment services for patients.
• To manage own clinical caseload within the community setting as a member of the children’s physiotherapy team with support from senior staff via various methods.
• To provide advice to other healthcare professionals, social care workers, educational support staff, carers and relatives in order for them to implement therapy advice effectively.
• To support with supervision and mentorship of physiotherapy students.
• To support others with the early identification of children with physiotherapy needs.
• To prioritise the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Children at all times.
• To support the service to achieve Key Performance Indicators and maintain Target Activity Levels.
• To take part in quality governance, audits and projects for the team/service.
• To contribute to, and provide feedback about, possible developments in the team.

Person specification

Qualifications

• Recognised Physiotherapy Degree qualification or equivalent
• Registered member of Health Professions Council-licence (HPC) to practice
• Registered Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
• Membership of relevant Special Interest Groups.

Experience

• Experience at undergraduate/post graduate level of working with children and young people
• Experience at undergraduate/post graduate level of student placements or qualified clinical work to have provided a broad range of experience in neurological, orthopaedic and musculo‑skeletal conditions.
• Assessment treatment and management of children with physical disabilities
• Working with parents and carers.
• Experience of working with teachers/ other professionals / parents.
• Post graduate experience of writing clinical notes and reports.
• Clinical audit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

• Understanding of the role of the physiotherapy within paediatrics
• Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions and equipment relevant to the above client group
• Knowledge of assessment tools relevant to CYP with physical disabilities
• Awareness of the differences of a paediatric versus adult caseload
• Ability to work as a member of a team
• Awareness of national policies and procedures in particular safeguarding children, Children and families Act, SEND code of practice and SEN tribunals, National Service framework for children, the children’s bill and foundation stage and National curriculum’s
• Awareness of the principles of clinical governance/audit
• Competent word processing and presentation skills using appropriate software and databases
• Good presentation skills, both written and verbal
