We seek a motivated, innovative, and enthusiastic Lived Experience Educator to join our Health & Justice Services EOS team at HMP Bronzefield. The role supports prisoners with complex needs, promotes trauma‑informed care, and delivers training to staff and specialist teams.
Main duties of the job
Support and enhance the delivery of trauma‑informed and women‑centred training on self‑harm behaviours within the prison setting from a lived‑experience perspective, and work independently according to a plan reviewed through regular supervision by a qualified HCPC‑registered Psychologist.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Contribute to the EOS Self‑Harm Project by delivering and developing the Self‑Harm Training to staff within the female estate, focusing on recovery, co‑production, and service‑user involvement.
- Co‑deliver the training with qualified clinical and operational staff and offer Train‑the‑Trainer courses.
- Work alongside existing forums and teams within EOS to refine the training, promote it, and evaluate its effectiveness.
- Lead engagement of service‑user perspectives in all key deliverables through shared decision‑making and collaborative shaping.
- Provide staff training on formulation of self‑harm and its functions.
- Disseminate learning to increase understanding of complex behaviours and response strategies.
- Offer a transferable model for training delivery and evaluate its efficacy outside HMP Bronzefield.
- Liaise with OPD and HMPPS psychological services to share developments and outcomes.

Education and Qualifications
- Completion of Peer Support and/or Recovery Focused Training
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent skills in research, writing or analysis
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Mentorship or Supervision Training
- Teaching qualification
Previous Experience (Paid/unpaid, relevant to job)
- Lived experience of time spent in the prison system
- Experience of delivering training
- Working in a recovery‑focused manner
- Experience of supporting service‑user involvement
- Experience using electronic patient records systems such as RiO, SystmOne or Care Notes
- Experience of training or facilitating group work
- Experience of relationship building and partnership working
- Experience of public speaking
- Liaising and working with colleagues from other disciplines
- Involvement in service redesign and development
- Experience in policy development
- Experience of working as a peer worker or peer trainer

- First‑person experiential knowledge of time spent in the prison system and recovery at an expert level
- Knowledge of the concept of personal recovery as it may apply to others
