This post is based in Milton Keynes and covers 3 sites across the area: Eaglestone, Shipley Court, and Urgent Care. Travel is essential. We are looking for an experienced IV trained and qualified Dental Nurse for a full-time position in our community dental service.
Main duties of the job include:
- Carrying out dental nursing duties to assist the dental clinician (e.g. Dentists, Dental Therapist/Hygienist) in treating Special Care and Paediatric patients.
- Maintaining high standards in Infection Prevention Control.
- Assisting the patient on their treatment journey.
- Line management and leadership duties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
- Communicating with the clinical team and peers in an appropriate manner.
- Demonstrating the application of the principles of ethical behaviour relevant to dentistry, including honesty, confidentiality, personal and professional integrity, and compliance with the standards for dental professionals laid down by the GDC.
- Taking responsibility for own continuous professional development, maintaining professional knowledge and competence in line with the personal development plan agreed at annual appraisal.
- Demonstrating a professional approach, including participation in appraisal, peer review, clinical audit and continuing professional development activities.
- Providing supervision and annual appraisals for staff.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skills in clinical techniques and their application in accordance with the General Dental Council’s requirement for lifelong learning.
- Gaining required security clearance to work in secure settings.
- Attending mandatory training as required by CNWL and the Dental Service.
- Having and maintaining full registration with the General Dental Council.
- Taking responsibility for personal development.
- Committing to high professional standards.
- Being able to travel to work at other dental sites, some of which are not easily served by public transport.
- Contributing to and leading on quality improvement projects and clinical governance.
- Carrying out clerical duties associated with the running of the clinic, i.e. appointment making, answering telephone calls and general enquiries, collection of mail, taking and accounting of monies received as necessary.
- Undertaking specific duties delegated by the Clinicians, senior management team and Dental Nurse Manager.
- Monitoring and maintaining stock levels of consumable items.
- Completing line management documentation in relation to one-to-one meetings, appraisals and clinical supervision with direct reports.
Person specification:
- Good general education up to GCSE O level standard / NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience.
- Full registration with General Dental Council.
- Additional relevant Dental Nurse Certificate.
- Post graduate qualification or equivalent.
- Current or recent experience working as a dental nurse with clinical commitment in hospital, salaried or general dental service.
- Clerical experience of using dental software packages.
- Able to supervise trainees and unqualified staff.
- Experience of assisting with provision of care under general anaesthesia.
- Experience of assisting with provision of care under intravenous and inhalation sedation.
- Experience of assisting with provision of care on a domiciliary basis.
- Experience of working with a dentist to carry out screenings or epidemiological surveys.
- Demonstrable knowledge of cross infection control standards.
- Understanding & promoting equality, diversity and human rights in accordance with legislation, policy and procedures.
- Understanding of confidentiality in the workplace.
- Experience of line management.
- Experience of working in secure settings.
- Previous NHS experience within a specialised service.
