We are seeking a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Substance Misuse Lead Nurse to join our Health & Justice team at HMP Feltham B. The role involves providing clinical support for clients with substance dependence, leading the Substance Misuse Clinical Team, and ensuring high standards of nursing and psychosocial care within a 7âday working model.
Main duties of the job:
- Provide clinical support for clients with substance dependence as Substance Misuse Clinical Team Leader (Band 7).
- Ensure you have qualification as an NMP or willingness to undertake NonâMedical Prescribing training.
- Manage complex clients, providing advice and guidance on clinical interventions to a multidisciplinary team, psychosocial workers and agencies.
- Demonstrate leadership and undertake both clinical and managerial responsibilities as the SMS Lead.
- Ensure effective use of nursing and psychosocial provision and all clinical resources.
Clinical responsibilities include:
- Maintain high standards of nursing care through ongoing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation for drug and alcohol users.
- Work autonomously with professional accountability to deliver service needs safely.
- Handle sensitive information empathetically and discuss patient changes with relevant professionals.
- Lead interâprofessional and multidisciplinary working to ensure continuity of care.
- Continuously evaluate, develop and implement improvements for clinical and psychosocial service delivery.
- Support staff in safe management of highârisk areas and carry out risk assessments (hazardous material, challenging behaviour, safeguarding, illicit drug use).
- Promote health and wellâbeing of patients with complex needs to maintain optimum physical and psychological health.
- Manage and support delivery of bioâpsychological and clinical care planning, ensuring needs assessments and treatment plans are reviewed in line with NMC and local guidelines.
- Embed the 6 'C's in clinical practice for yourself and junior staff.
- Uphold NMC Code of Conduct at all times.

- Experience managing a caseload within the community.

- Experience in group facilitation.
- Research and counselling model awareness.
- Motivational Interviewing skills and relapse management.
Previous Experience:
- Substantial experience in a drug and alcohol service.
- Experience practising as an Independent Nurse Prescriber.
- Experience providing line management in a team.
- Experience undertaking risk assessments and risk management.
- Experience teaching others and willingness to undertake Teaching and Assessing qualification within six months of commencing post.
- Community nursing experience.
- Experience delivering services to injecting drug users.
- Experience in supplying and administering Hepatitis vaccines.
- Advanced assessment skills.
Education and Qualifications:
- RMN / RGN.
- Continuing personal development and postâregistration training in nursing care assessment and treatment for substance misuse clients.
- V300 Independent Nurse Prescriber or enrolment in an Independent Nurse Prescribing course.
- Degree/Master in Drugs and Alcohol Studies or equivalent.
- Completed Motivational Interviewing Training Module.
- Advanced assessment skills.
