An exciting, permanent opportunity has arisen to join the innovative Adult Community Speech and Language Therapy service in Hillingdon. This role is suitable for a newly qualified or experienced Band 7 with an interest in complex dysphagia and health conditions, acquired neurological disorders and service development.
The post holder will work closely with the Speech and Language Therapy Team Lead to develop the service and will independently deliver high-quality clinical care in the community, in line with the national drive for preventative care. The role involves working alongside the Hillingdon Community Rehabilitation Service, other allied health professionals and broader community services such as ESD, care home support and specialist nursing teams. The community/domiciliary SLT service is part of a wider Adult SLT team, which also includes an outpatient, voice and videofluoroscopy service.
Videofluoroscopy training and competency development will be supported within the weekly community SLT-led service, including MBsimP training as appropriate.
The post holder will provide an outpatient Speech & Language Therapy service to adults across the London Borough of Hillingdon who have voice/ENT disorders. There may be a smaller caseload of out-patients with dysphagia and/or communication needs. The post holder will demonstrate efficacy of this service to stakeholders with appropriate liaison and audit. The post holder will advise and support other SLT staff with their voice work. The post holder will have co-supervisory responsibility for a Band 6 SLT and receive supervision from the Adult SLT manager.
Salary
Salary £55,524 – £62,652 pro rata per annum, inclusive of HCAS. Salary is dependent on NHS experience and current banding/paypoint. Part-time/flexible working arrangements will be considered.
Education / Qualifications
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
- Health Professions Council – Licence to Practice
- Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses up to Master’s degree equivalent
- Membership of relevant Special Interest Groups
- Qualification in LSVT
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent presentation skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent organisational skills
- Excellent caseload management skills, including the ability to prioritise and work independently
- Ability to be a good team member and assume leadership responsibilities
- Well-established knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools relevant to adult acquired communication, voice and swallowing disorders
- In-depth knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to specialist patient groups
- In-depth knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions for communication and dysphagia in specialist patient groups, and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits
- In-depth knowledge of the principles of clinical governance, audit and record keeping
- Knowledge of up-to-date advances in clinical management relevant to specialist patient groups and application to own clinical practice
- Knowledge of high and low technology communication aids and their use with adult neurological patients
Experience
- Substantial experience working with adults with acquired disorders, particularly voice disorders
- Highly specialist experience post-qualification in assessment and management of acquired communication/swallowing disorders of neurological aetiology or ENT
- In-depth experience within the specialist area of voice
- Involvement in multidisciplinary working
- Significant proportion of postgraduate experience in an outpatient setting
- Independent in videofluoroscopy
- Experience of supervising and appraising more junior therapists
- Experience working with interpreters
- Experience of developing and providing specialist training to nursing home staff, carers and other members of the MDT
