We are looking for a motivated trainee to join our pharmacy department and progress through a GPhC-approved Pharmacy Technician apprenticeship. The role is part of an apprenticeship programme and the trainee will work under the supervision of a pharmacist or senior technician.

Job Overview

This is a training post designed to give the successful candidate the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). The role involves working in different pharmacy teams across CNWL NHS and completing assignments/exams as set by the training provider.

Main Duties

  • Work as a full-time member of the pharmacy team while completing a Level 3/4 Pharmacy Technician apprenticeship programme.
  • Rotate through various areas of the pharmacy department, supporting the team(s) and learning new skills.
  • Provide accurate and efficient pharmacy dispensary service.
  • Deliver medicines optimisation service to patients on bedded wards and within community health teams.
  • Work safely and efficiently with the stores, procurement and distribution team.
  • Fulfil the requirements of the combined pharmacy technician training programme.

Qualifications

  • Good level of basic education: Maths, English GCSE grade A*–C (4–9) or equivalent OR Maths, English and Science GCSE grade A*–C (4–9) or equivalent.
  • Ability to meet the apprenticeship standard.
  • Willingness to undertake Functional skills qualifications for English and/or Maths if necessary.
  • Completion of a GPhC-recognised Pharmacy Support Staff qualification (e.g., Pharmacy Assistant, Pharmacy Counter Assistant or Pharmacy Dispenser), or Level 2 apprenticeship in Pharmacy Services.
  • Completion of medicine optimisation training (POD assessment and transcribing for supply).

Experience

  • Experience working in a team.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety practices.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Previous experience in a pharmacy setting – partial experience such as pharmacy skills boot-camp graduates is considered.
  • Previous experience in a secondary/tertiary care pharmacy setting.
  • Experience providing medicines optimisation services (POD checks & transcribing for supply).

Skills

  • Computer-literate – practical experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Problem-solving initiative.
  • Ability to meet objectives and targets.
  • Good organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Dispensing skills (primary or secondary care).
  • Confident use of electronic prescribing/ordering and patient management systems.
