September 1st 2025 – January 5th 2026. There are on call duties aligned to this post. We are open to candidates who may need a delayed start date or trainees interested in an acting up position, so Doctors on the specialist register for SPC or ST trainees eligible to act up are welcome to apply. The aims of the post are to provide an efficient and responsive clinical service to the community patients requiring supportive and palliative care; the post holder will join a team of 3 community consultants ( 2 medical, 1 nursing) to develop relationships and improve the care of patients and provide cross clinical cover within other areas of the specialist palliative care service (including the UCLH hospital palliative care team). This is a part time fixed term consultant role of 6.5 PAs. All DCC are within the community setting. Working for our organisation You will be part of a busy proactive and innovative multidisciplinary team providing excellent care to patients and relatives. The Camden, Islington and UCLH Palliative Care Service is a well-established specialist palliative care service that has gained recognition for its innovative, integrated and comprehensive care provision. The service delivers a Specialist Palliative Care (SPC) Service throughout University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) and within the local communities of South Camden, North East Westminster and Islington. It has a 7 day a week 9am-8pm visiting on call service to these areas. The service has a robust programme of service improvement, audit and education and meets regularly to develop and deliver these. The service works closely with primary care and other specialist palliative care providers within NCL ICS and is a member of PallE8, and the UCL Palliative Care Research Consortium. It is a training unit for specialty registrars and undergraduates. Detailed job description and main responsibilities To provide clinical care to patients and those important to them within South Camden, and Islington (and a small part of Westminster) The post holder will work closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialists and other colleagues in the team, as well as colleagues within the wider service and throughout the Trust, and will liaise with professionals within the community – GPs, Community Nursing and other specialist Teams (e.g. Respiratory, Learning difficulties, Heart Failure, Dementia etc), and within St Pancras Hospital (St Pancras Rehabilitation Unit, Camden Virtual ward etc) as well as neighbouring hospitals as needed. To provide clinical cross cover for SPC consultants in the service who work in UCLH as needed.. To work closely with the clinical lead for the service, as well as the leads for the community team. Represent Palliative Care at relevant clinical and strategic meetings (e.g. NCL Specialist Palliative Care provider group, PallE8, GP Multidisciplinary meetings, Cross community meetings) To attend and contribute to the community specialist palliative care MDT meeting each week. To p rovide clinical supervision and educational supervision to trainees working within the team, as well as educational support and teaching to members of the nursing team undertaking advanced practice (e.g non-medical prescribing, physical assessment) and to visitors to the team.
