The Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) is looking to recruit a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Head of Healthcare to join our forward‑thinking, friendly and expanding Health & Justice team at HMP/YOI Bronzefield. The post holder will manage and deliver health services within the prison, ensuring quality care, effective clinical governance and financial stewardship.

As Head of Healthcare, you will have responsibility for the management and delivery of health services within HMP Bronzefield as part of the Health and Justice Service Line. You will work with the Deputy Director & Health & Justice Service Directors to ensure strategic direction is implemented at operational level, lead change management, lead the healthcare team and manage budgets, staffing, contracts, financial targets and quality standards.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, development and delivery of healthcare within the Female/Male Service Line.
  • Work with the Prison Governor and Health & Justice Senior Management to manage high quality healthcare delivery, inform service specifications, monitor outcomes and ensure key performance indicators are met.
  • Develop and maintain effective systems for performance and quality management, respond to legislation, national priorities and service frameworks, take remedial action and report to senior management.
  • Monitor and review sub‑contracted services, recommend changes to service level agreements.
  • Promote equality issues, ensure a whole systems approach and actively participate in partnership agenda.
  • Manage allocated budgets, ensure value for money, meet expenditure limits and review service and financial performance.
  • Ensure Clinical Governance is central to all services, continuously improve services to meet prison population needs.
  • Maintain and develop healthcare services to meet national standards and infection control standards.
  • Minimise risk to health and safety of staff and prisoners, implement all agreed policies and procedures.

Person specification:

Education and Qualification:

  • Registered Nurse or equivalent professional qualification with post‑registration experience
  • Degree level education or equivalent
  • Management qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Experience:

  • Senior management position within healthcare services or equivalent
  • Proven experience managing a multi‑disciplinary team, including senior managers and clinicians
  • Experience organising and chairing steering groups
  • Experience in policy development, strategic planning, clinical governance and change management projects
  • Experience in successful inter‑agency partnership working
  • Experience working within statutory and regulatory frameworks and translating them to operational level
  • Experience developing programmes to improve user/carer involvement
  • Experience managing a diverse workforce
  • Some understanding of criminal justice/secure health or education setting
  • Ability to negotiate complex contracts with director approval
