An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 qualified Clinician to deliver Specialist care for high risk/diabetes foot care in the community setting of the borough of Ealing. This post requires a person who is highly specialised and has extensive knowledge, clinical skills and experience at working at a level in the field of Diabetes. Providing comprehensive care for patients with complex high risk foot problems. Providing education to health care staff and patients on management of diabetes and diabetic foot care. The post holder will be clinically responsible for treatment of the high risk caseload working autonomously as well as work as part of the wider Podiatry team. You will be expected to lead on diabetes and provide support and education to junior staff, other HCPs and your peers. The post holder will also line manage and supervise junior staff members within the team; delivering supervision, sickness meetings and support to that staff member. You will also deputise on behalf of the service manager on a rotational basis.
Main duties of the job:
- Provide Diabetes specialist foot care for patients with complex high risk foot problems.
- The post holder will be clinically responsible for treatment of the high risk caseload working autonomously as well as working/liaising with the multidisciplinary team and other health care professionals involved in the patient’s care.
- The post requires accepting emergency referrals from GPs, community/acute podiatrists, and other health professionals and will provide responsive specialist care.
- There will be a need for education and up‑skilling of clinical and care staff.
- There will also be a responsibility for patient education and working with education programmes and competency frameworks within the trust.
- As part of the Podiatry service, the post will be based in a variety of settings within Ealing Community Partners.
- Car driver is desirable for this role as you will be required to carry out home‑visits.
Managerial/Leadership:
- To actively participate in and at times lead team meetings as appropriate.
- To play an active role in the promotion of quality & safety within the clinical environment.
- Represent Podiatry service at local and regional meetings as required.
- To undertake clinical and managerial supervision with staff members designated to you and deputise for the service manager on a rotational basis with other leads in the service where appropriate.
- To take the lead interpreting corporate policy and co‑creating local guidelines for and with the team to follow.
- To lead the team of clinicians and support staff in the provision of pro‑active high‑quality podiatric care and supporting peer reviewing of staff.
- To be actively involved in the recruitment, selection and local induction of staff.
Qualifications:
- HCPC Registration
- Hold a Certificate in local anaesthesia
- SOCP/COP Diabetic foot module or equivalent
- IRMER Course
Skills & Knowledge:
- Extensive knowledge of the effect of diabetes in podiatric care.
- Sound knowledge and experience in wound care including treatment modalities and Biomechanics.
- Demonstrates current clinical knowledge regarding evidence base and best practices.
- Ability and knowledge of appropriate investigations required in the treatment of the high risk foot.
- Ability and experience of foot health education/promotion of the high risk foot.
- Knowledge of national policy relating to the diabetic foot.
- Effective organisational skills.
- Knowledge of the issues involved with a diverse population.
Experience:
- Extensive postgraduate experience in the NHS working with high risk diabetic feet.
- Podiatry Experience of education of healthcare professionals.
- Experience of multi‑disciplinary working.
- Experience of working across primary and secondary care.
- Previous experience of line – management (supervision & appraisal).
- Wide range of clinical experience including complex wound care, with emphasis on patient with diabetes.
- Experience of delivering patient education package.
- Involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate training.
- CPD in leadership and management.
Key Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent communication, IT, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritise & plan own workload to meet deadlines & competing demands; demonstrating flexibility.
- Involvement in regular audit or research & development.
- Extensive knowledge of the effect of diabetes in podiatric care.
- Sound knowledge and experience in wound care including treatment modalities and Biomechanics.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills in pressure off‑loading in the high risk foot in the treatment of ulceration and prevention of ulcer in the high risk foot.
- Demonstrates current clinical knowledge regarding evidence base and best practices.
- Ability and knowledge of appropriate investigations required in the treatment of the high risk foot.
- Ability and experience of foot health education/promotion of the high risk foot.
- Knowledge of national policy relating to the diabetic foot.
- Effective organisational skills.
- Knowledge of the issues involved with a diverse population.
Aptitudes and personal characteristics:
- Willing to develop own skills & knowledge & provide leadership to others to support their development.
- Ability to maintain quality and have the capability to move and handle patients who may be immobile, wheelchair or bedbound, often working in difficult conditions.
- Must be able to undertake domiciliary work and travel between clinics in Hillingdon area in line with the normal duties of the post.
- Ability to deal with workplace conflict.
