CNWL is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Consultant to join the Harness Community Mental Health Team. This full-time position would be excellent for someone wanting to broaden their experience of community psychiatry and develop their clinical skills in a supportive and challenging environment. The team is well established with good support from senior clinical and managerial colleagues.
Main duties of the job:- This is a Consultant Psychiatrist replacement post working within the Harness Locality Community Mental Health Team.
- The post holder will have consultant and RC responsibility for a defined caseload of service users under the care of the local CMHT.
- The post holder will also provide mentoring and supervision as an experienced consultant.
- To manage, appraise and provide professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical director.
- To ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant.
- To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, and submit this promptly through the trusts clinical information systems.
- To participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, as appropriate, for the whole mental health service.
- To participate in annual appraisal for consultants.
- To attend and participate in the academic program of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD program.
- To participate annually, as a minimum, in a job plan review with the clinical manager.
- To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services.
- To comply with the Trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions.
- Assessment of new patients and clinical supervision of assessments carried out by other team members.
- Full participation in the multidisciplinary team providing care in the community.
- Senior medical responsibility for the care carried out by the Community Mental Health Team for both CPA and LPC patients.
- Review and monitoring of the caseload to ensure appropriate care packages are put in place and discharges facilitated to maintain patient flow.
- Contribution to the continuous development of the Community Mental Health Team.
- Domiciliary visits to provide assessment and treatment services as a member of the CMHT.
- Research, in terms of personal projects and clinical audits as part of clinical governance.
- Involvement in joint planning of future service development.
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
- MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
- Excellent knowledge in specialty.
- Excellent clinical skills using bio‑psycho‑social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
- Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others.
- Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
- Wide range of specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to working in community services within NHS or a comparable service.
