Are you looking for a new challenge and opportunities in a service at a time of exciting change and development? Our adult ADHD service is looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic Clinical/Counselling Psychologists to develop and implement our new psychological pathways. This is an opportunity to contribute to new psychological pathways for adults with ADHD as part of an overall redesign of the service. The priority for the new service is to offer a biopsychosocial approach for people diagnosed with ADHD, and prioritise psychological and social interventions as part of the Waiting Well offer for people waiting for assessments.
The post holder will be responsible for providing assessment and psychological interventions for people referred to the service, contributing to the development of the new psychological pathways as a part of the psychology team. We are keen to invest in the development of new practitioners joining our service to enhance their knowledge, skills, clinical practice, leadership and confidence in working in this area. We are therefore looking for applicants who have experience in working with people with ADHD or have a foundation of transferable skills and an interest to develop in this area. We especially welcome applications from candidates with the valuable experience of the diverse social and cultural communities the Trust serves as we are seeking to ensure our psychology staffing has greater diversity and better represents local communities.
Main duties of the job include:
- Providing a highly specialist psychology service to people with ADHD including specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.
- Contributing to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
- Providing clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate, functioning as a lead specialist in the adult ADHD service.
- Undertaking service evaluation, audit and research.
- Working as an autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by principles and policies or procedures of the service.
Qualifications required include:
- Registered with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist, and evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC.
- Additional training in a specialised area of psychological practice through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent).
- Completed training course in clinical supervision.
- Entry-level qualification in Applied Psychology (professional Doctorate, or combination of MSc plus PG Diploma level additional training).
- Training in ADHD assessment and psychological interventions for ADHD.
Experience required includes:
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature in the context of ADHD.
- Experience of supervising assistant and trainee psychologists having completed the relevant training.
- Post-qualification experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities.
- Evidence of having worked as a clinical specialist under supervision in ADHD or a relevant area.
- Experience of using formal assessment tools to diagnose ADHD and consider differential diagnosis.
Knowledge required includes:
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological assessments and interventions for people with ADHD.
- Advanced knowledge of psychological assessment and clinical psychometrics as these relate to neurodevelopmental conditions.
- Theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for the relevant treatment.
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health issues, child and adult protection, and equalities.
- Doctoral level knowledge of psychological research methodology and complex statistical analysis.
Skills and abilities required include:
- To deliver psychological therapy across cultural and other differences.
- To select and administer specialist diagnostic and psychological assessments, interpreting and integrating complex data.
- To be skilled in the administration of psychometric and neuropsychological tests.
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to communicate skilfully and sensitively complex and sensitive information with clients, carers and colleagues.
