Job Overview
Provide senior clinical leadership within the Jane Wadsworth multi‑disciplinary sexual function service at St Mary’s Hospital. The role requires supervisory duties and at least three years’ experience treating a range of sexual problems across diverse populations.
Main Duties of the Job
- Develop, coordinate and deliver a psychology service to patients with sexual function difficulties, providing specialist clinical input.
- Create a psychologically safe environment to enable staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish.
- Lead clinical supervision and consultation, acting as a specialist in sexual function.
- Ensure effective systems for supervision and support of other psychologists.
- Undertake service evaluation, audit, research and policy development.
- Operate as an autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines, interpreting policies as required.
- Agree outcomes with clinical or professional leads and determine how best to achieve them.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent.
- Completed training in clinical supervision.
- Registered with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist, with evidence of CPD.
- Additional training in sex therapy equivalent to a Postgraduate Diploma (via formal post‑qualification training or supervised portfolio).
Experience
- Minimum three years as a clinical specialist in sex therapy under supervision.
- Experience in specialist assessment and treatment within sexual function services.
- Supervision of assistant and trainee psychologists.
- Teaching or training of psychologists or other professionals.
- Record of peer‑reviewed publications; experience of audit, research or service evaluation projects.
- Experience of service development within a sexual function setting.
- Post‑qualification experience addressing diversity in local communities.
Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of specialist psychological therapies for sexual function.
- Proficiency with outcome measures in sexual function work.
- Understanding of legislation related to client protection, mental health and equality.
