We have an exciting job opportunity for a dedicated Band 5 Nurse to join our friendly and progressive Community Children’s Nursing Team in Harrow. Our team is well-established and committed to providing compassionate, family-centered nursing care to children who are facing acute, complex, and long-term health conditions. We currently provide a 5-day service to children and their families living in Harrow Borough, supporting palliative and end-of-life care. Join us and become an integral part of our team.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated individual who is a highly motivated independent practitioner, underpinned by a solid foundation in evidence-based nursing practices. While experience working in the community is preferred, it is not essential. We are interested in your skill set and what you can bring to our team.

Main duties of the job:

• This is an opportunity to become part of a team that provides nursing care to children in a variety of community settings and special schools.
• The Children’s Community Nursing Team provides clinical nursing care, training and support to children, young people (aged 0-19) and their carers at home or other community settings, enabling them to remain safely in the community and transition to adult services where appropriate.
• Our team look after the following children and young people in the community:

• Children with acute and short-term conditions
• Children with long term conditions
• Children with disabilities and complex conditions, including neonates
• Children with life-limiting and life-threatening illness, including palliative and end-of-life-care

Children's Community Nurses work closely with the people who use our services and special school in Harrow Borough. We play an important role in helping children and young people receive the care they need while empowering families to manage their health effectively within the community setting. Children’s Community Nurses are expected to be kind and responsive, but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by:

• ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence-based policies and procedures
• ensuring the people using our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering, and working in partnership with people throughout the care planning process

Children’s Community Nurses work as part of a team and you will contribute to the success of the team by being an effective role model, to ensure they are working to the standards that the people using our services deserve.

Person specification:

• EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

• RSCN / RN(Child)
• NMC Registration
• Numeracy skills required for the safe administration of medicines
• Evidence of relevant Continuous Professional Development
• Epilepsy PET 1&2 Course

• Previous experience as a Band 5 nurse
• Evidence of post registration experience
• Recent experience with children’s nursing within acute/or community setting.
• Community experience

• Able to communicate with the multi-disciplinary team, present cases, take note of actions, update others in the team and use handover effectively.
• Maintaining accurate, timely, concise and legible clinical records both electronic and handwritten which adhere to the CNWL policies
• High standard of clinical expertise and knowledge of general paediatrics
• Experience of working with the acute, long term conditions and complex children/young people
• Experience of working with students
• Experience of teaching
• Expertise in particular skills and evidence of how you developed them and use them in your current role
• Awareness of the health needs of children and young people
• Caring for the people who use our services, their families and carers, and other staff
• Respectful of others and genuinely treating them how you would want to be treated
• Able and willing to work with service users, family and carers, and other staff in a way which empowers and supports others and makes them feel better about themselves
• Able and willing to work in partnership with service users, their friends and family as well as other health care professionals
