Job overview
An experienced professional is required to join the Brent CAMHS team as a CAMHS Practitioner for Children Looked After and the Enhanced Treatment team. The role involves providing direct clinical assessment, care coordination and specialist support for children looked after within the community. The post is graded at band 7, 30 hours per week (2 days at Monks Park Health Clinic and 1‑2 days at Brent Civic Centre). The successful candidate will work autonomously, undertake mental health assessment, improve outcomes and provide advice to carers and multi‑agency partners.

- Improve mental health outcomes for Brent children looked after and those placed within the borough.
- Advise carers, health professionals and partner agencies on best practice and safety.
- Support the local authority in ensuring team responsibilities towards children looked after are met.

PERSONAL SKILLS ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES
- Commitment to extend specialist CAMHS related clinical skills through reflective practice, CPD and other initiatives.
- Ability to form good working relationships in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Excellent verbal, written communication and report‑writing skills.
- Ability to operate within an unpredictable work pattern.
- Demonstrate effective clinical leadership and active involvement in service development.
Training and Qualifications
- Professional Health or Social Care qualification at postgraduate level.
- Current registration with a regulated professional body (e.g. HCP, NMC).
- Evidence of formal postgraduate learning within a relevant CYPS/CAMHS setting.
Experience
- Post‑qualification experience providing specialist and evidence‑based interventions within a clinical/therapeutic setting.
- Experience working with children and young people with high clinical risk needs, including risk assessment and safety planning.
- Experience delivering specialist, practice‑based and evidence‑based interventions for children and young people with complex, multi‑agency needs.
- Ability to take a lead role in providing a high‑quality specialist service, including consultation, assessment and therapeutic intervention.
- Experience in CAMHS care coordination and managing highly vulnerable children and young people.
- Experience in delivering supervision and consultation to staff and partner agencies.
- Experience contributing to service development initiatives.
PROFESSIONAL / MANAGERIAL / SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE
- Expert knowledge of evidence‑based professional interventions and best practice in CAMHS.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and multi‑agency therapeutic working, including consultation and joint care planning.
- In‑depth understanding of relevant legislation, national policies and guidance for mental health, looked‑after children and learning disability needs.
- Knowledge of equality, diversity and anti‑discriminatory practice.
- Specialist knowledge of parental mental health and learning disability issues affecting children and young people.
- Expertise in using routine outcome measurements and evaluating service outcomes.
- Robust knowledge of adult mental health problems.
