Working for our organisation, Oak Tree Ward is an acute inpatient mixed ward for older adults aged 70+ with mental health conditions, located in the borough of Hillingdon. The ward provides 24-hour service 7 days a week and staff are mainly rostered to work 11.5-hour shifts day and night (break not included). Band 5 nurses work closely with the therapy and medical team to deliver a quality standard of care to patients while ensuring carers' involvement throughout patients’ clinical care. Patients are admitted with various diagnoses and band 5 nurses play an important role in providing compassionate care to aid patient recovery.

- Using clinical judgement and risk assessments to keep the people using our services as safe as possible.
- Safeguarding people by recognising and responding when an adult or child might be at risk from abuse, while recognising your own limits and seeking help and escalating concerns when necessary.
- Escalating safety concerns and acting as effective advocates for those who use our services.

Professional registration and legal compliance
- Registered Nurse with the NMC.

Education
- NMC Registered Nurse – Mental Health.
- Numeracy skills required for safe administration of medicines.

Experience
- Previous experience working in mental health services either as a Band 5 nurse, a student nurse, or health care assistant.
- Experience working as a RMN in older adults mental health and/or a mental health clinical setting.
Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to communicate with the multi-disciplinary team, present cases, take notes, update others and use handover effectively (face-to-face, telephone, written).
- Maintaining accurate, timely, concise and legible clinical records (electronic and handwritten) in line with CNWL policies.
- Care planning: assess patients, develop, implement and evaluate care plans.
- Understanding of the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and Mental Health Act and their impact on work.
- Concept of quality and role in improving safety, clinical outcomes and patient experience.
- Understanding of physical health care and its effect on mental illness.
- Collaborative teamwork: communicate effectively, be kind, considerate, reliable and enthusiastic.
