The Role
We’re seeking a Controls & Instrument Engineer to join our Buzzard Operations & Maintenance team in Aberdeen. CNOOC International is one of the most reputable oil producers in the UK North Sea, operating the Buzzard, Golden Eagle and Scott platforms. Reporting to the Buzzard Operations & Maintenance Delivery Manager, the Controls & Instrument Engineer provides technical support for CNOOC International’s Buzzard Asset and is responsible for technical integrity across a wide range of Engineering activities.
As Controls & Instrument Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering best‑in‑class results for UK Production Operations by:
- Ensuring all activities are planned and conducted in compliance with HSE policy & CNOOC’s Life Saving Rules.
- Actively supporting CNOOC’s commitment to safety and environmental protection.
- Ensuring positive HSE performance by personnel, contractors and others working under your direction.
- Having a good understanding of Major Accident Hazards and participating in the resolution of any deviations against the MAH score.
- Ensuring effective cost management for areas of responsibility and executing tasks in a way which maximises value and minimises waste and risk.
Technical Accountabilities
- Responsible for ensuring delivery of technically correct and timely solutions to all issues relating to Control & Instrument systems / equipment.
- Providing onshore discipline support to Maintenance Planning in accordance with the Daily Scheduling Process and the Integrated Activity Planning process.
- Regularly reviewing performance of Control & Instrument systems and responsible for execution of remedial activities arising from reviews.
- Assist with the resolution of operational problems, including participation in and close‑out of investigations and root cause analysis.
- Provide Control & Instrument support to progress the asset towards Net Zero targets including the delivery of ERAP scopes.
Who are we looking for?
Successful candidates will have a thorough understanding of all Controls & Instrumentation Operations & Maintenance matters to allow them to act as subject matter expert for the Buzzard Asset team. We are interested in hearing from candidates with:
- Bachelor’s or master’s Degree in Control & Instrument Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Ideally, some hands‑on operations field environment experience.
- Strong communication, interpersonal skills and organisational skills with the ability to work in a flexible team environment.
- Preferably achieved or be in the final stages of achieving Chartered Professional (CEng) status with a recognised body (such as the IEEE).
