Editor, Programming – CNN Digital
CNN Digital’s Editor, Programming reports to the Senior Editor, Programming. The role curates CNN’s core surfaces, sends alerts to our app audience, and uses creativity in content packaging. Exceptional news judgment, urgency and creativity are vital. You drive audience engagement, making decisions that affect how millions experience news.
Your Role Accountabilities
- Master CNN\’s core platforms, demonstrating stellar news judgment
- Initiate creative feed organization using CNN’s content library
- Deploy top‑knock editorial and news judgment to support clear, engaging curation and framing of CNN journalism
- Recognize programming and audience needs proactively and collaborate with senior team members
- Guide associate editors and occasionally serve as a shift lead
- Interact with stakeholders to share and receive feedback on initiatives and day‑to‑day programming
- Participate in post‑mortems and strategic conversations to enhance programming
- Execute distribution strategies while monitoring audience data and optimizing content
- Apply deep knowledge of digital content forms (video, articles, photo galleries, etc.) to program for user needs, identify trends, and communicate insights to senior leadership
- Contribute to content strategies based on audience behaviour and platform performance
- Edit breaking news and collaborate with writers in shaping alerts and articles
Qualifications & Experience
- Demonstrable experience in digital news
- Excellent writing and editing skills, able to work quickly under pressure while maintaining high standards
- Strong collaborative mindset and communication skills
- Experience with analytics and content optimization
- Strategic thinking and creative problem‑solving abilities
- Willingness to work nights and/or weekends
- Understanding of digital content across multiple formats
- Ability to make fast‑paced editorial decisions
- Experience with content management and digital publishing tools
